I think perhaps Sporty lives in a world where activism isn't against free speech. His first week in the staff-room should have corrected that impression. Egotistical loudmouths tend to get drummed out of teaching pretty quickly these days. It is very much about pulling together as a workforce and not letting individuals dominate proceedings. Too important these days to have staff working harmoniously together otherwise it is down to poor leadership. Activism may be present but largely in corners and aimed at unjust working conditions and budget cuts etc that you'll see many a head teacher and governor agree with at present.

You can add the government both here and in the U.S to that list. Reactionary right-wing nutters have never had it so good but are they happy? Moan, moan, moan that's all they do.

I don't want to contribute to the main thrust of this debate, but simply on this point, all the media listed by sporty are consumer choices; anyone can choose not to buy them (as I choose not to buy them). I think that listing these is a bit of a red herring.
