I agree. I heard him speak at half time during the Russia match - I hadn’t heard him speak before. I was immediately struck by his bad English, and how ‘thick’ it made him seem. I was actually quite shocked, as I assumed he would be quite articulate. It wasn’t just the inappropriate use of ‘s’ but sometimes the random use of completely the wrong word. I can’t blame him for his accent, I suppose, but it did accentuate (if you’ll pardon the pun) the impression of being uneducated.

Talking of Wikiedia, perhaps ME ought to read the article entitled "Accent (sociolinguistics)", in particular the paragraphs headed "Prestige" and "Accent stereoyping and prejudice". Edited by chateauferret (15 Jun 2018 12.30pm)

I should have guessed that as it's you it's myself that should read the article and not YT whose original comment that the Geordie accent accentuated the impression of being uneducated was responsible for my riposte
