This post has been merged from a topic called 'Zaha announced in Ivory Coast squad for Africa Cup' by jamiemartin721 Originally posted by Sportyteacher
Look, Zaha has been a willing servant to our club and has dug the first team out of many hole in past Premiership matches. A team should never be reliant upon one player but, as Parish has fairly alluded to, be given the chance to prosper upon the international scene.if given the opportunity...and England clearly hasn't recognised his full potential. He needs cover within his absence and in the event of any forthcoming injuries. I agree with this post completely. We defo need cover for him regardless of AFCON. In his present form, he will be a great miss. Edited by Flightsequence (30 Dec 2016 8.54am)

This post has been merged from a topic called 'Zaha, African cup.' by jamiemartin721 I know players are honoured and privileged to play for their country but I'm not very happy that Zaha will be off to the tournament, I would prefer big Sam to say Zaha's unavailable, Zaha is needed here for our premiership survival, to me its more important for him to stay with Palace and hope we stay up. We can ill afford another player missing from our squad, the team are playing reasonably well at the moment its the decisions the poxy refs are making against us that's put us in the unfortunate position that we are in, in the league, so Wilf please stay here with us.

Well if you don't want him playing in the ACON for Ivory Coast, I would recommend turning the finger of blame towards Hodgson, Allerdyce and Southgate - all of whom had plenty of chances to secure him as an England International after his first appearance. Like Moses, England has lost out on a player because we don't use friendlies as a way of preparing the future of an England team.

As he still is an 'England qualified' player is there a chance for a U turn? Difficult as no promise can be made but worth a try? If not then we can enjoy his debut on TV and wish him well as we did for Bolassie and Kalkai.

I'd like to think we had a plan for his absence (given that its more likely he'd have missed a month through injury than international duty). However, its been quite clear that we didn't really have so much as a plan, under Pardew, as a policy of wishful thinking.
