I expect he is used to playing behind defenders who know what they are doing. Most of the top keepers are at teams with decent defences.

I don't recall not complaining about Hennessey cockups last season and I do remember observing that his confidence seemed shot at one point and needed to be rebuilt. I also don't recall seeing Hennessey exposed by such absent defending on more than an occasional basis. The goalkeeping isn't the problem. Expose the goalkeeper like this and you could have Neuer in goal and still lose. Correct. If it wasn't for Mandanda Liverpool would have scored a minimum of 6, and people seem to be forgetting the double save made against Burnley, which I felt redeemed his earlier error.

Steve is approaching starting for France - he is certainly showing he is capable.

One cannot dispute that Mandanda could have done much better with the 2nd goal.It was somewhat embarrassing for him.I cannot help thinking that if Hennessey had failed to keep out that shot in similar fashion he would have pilloried to the heavens on here.

Last season people on here said that the defence didn't trust Hennessey hence all the goals. Now we are in the same position it's not the keepers fault it's the defence.

Mandanda is doing fine with no major calamities occurring. People were going on about his terrible blunder for the 2nd goal at Burnley ,but having watched it for me he did well to get something on the ball and was very unlucky with the ricochet. Sorry, but are you SM? You really think we're lucky that our keeper managed to get anything on a shot aimed at the middle of the goal? Good grief.

I thought he did well to get anything on it. It was travelling like a bullet and he was lucky to react at all. Think of the pens that are smashed down the middle and keepers get something on it but cant stop it. Granted its closer, but still. Henessey struggled to get down to daisy cutters that were heading to the corners! I think if Mandanda had got the luck and it went over, it would have been logged as a great save.

With respect, I don't agree. It's not as if he would have made a conscious effort to divert it over. Many would deem that he got lucky as he should have made a much better show of dealing with the shot.I'm sure Mandanda himself is disappointed that he never gathered it cleanly.
