OK at the risk of being called barmy or stupid - When I look at the smaller nations doing well, its pretty much always on the back of team spirit , blood and guts for the good of the cause.
We as an England football team rarely demonstrate that kind of commitment, there are many that say that our guys are too pampered, they earn too much with the clubs, the England thing is an extra commitment that they could do without - but the managers cant avoid picking the players at the top clubs because either the FA or the Media will skin them, if any of this is true it hasent worked very well for us in the recent past. So what about doing something new:
1: Every player gets the opportunity to say if he will or wont sweat blood for the England team, if he is in or out - a complete amnesty / no retribution for anyone who dosent have the stomach for it, dosent want the responsibility, dosent feel the pride inside when it comes to the three lions or the national anthem, and we as a country don't pick them for the squad.......
Then with the list of those who do want to be part of it, will sweat blood, will do whatever is required to be what the England team needs, whenever it needs it, take a long hard look at those guys, whichever club they play for , in whatever league, and start from them, because that is what England national team needs.
Once you know who they are, then choose the manager that's going to get the best out of them.

International team coaching is different to club management, you're taking a punt on a club manager that has no international coaching experience. It worked with Wales and Coleman but it could quite easily have gone the other way. What would the English media have made of a dodgy result like the 6-1 stuffing we got from Serbia? The sack for Cookie probably.

The 2 previous foreign coaches (Sven and Capello) had no previous international coaching experience. If they want to hit the ground running, the FA should be trying to get one that's been in major international competitions before, Klinsmann or Lagerback would be ideal.

Any English coaches (apart from Hoddle) would need to be given a campaign to learn the job, and you run the risk of it all going tits up like McLarens campaign, so any current English club managers would presumably need to be seen as a longer term project. Again, would the media give them the time needed? Hell no.

Call me mad, but maybe we ought to look outside the world of football for our next manager? Perhaps someone who has been motivational in other circles such as Bono, Russell Brand or Lord Sugar? I say this as we have wandered haphazardly from one football manager to another in my lifetime and not won so much as a sausage.

Oh, Jamie Oliver, he's another one.

We're hopeless and may we well give Noel Edmonds a go as manager for all of the difference it would make

Good shout. He'd have us out of the Euros much more efficiently than Hodgson.

Even Nige couldn't manage that.

Supporting England just gets harder and harder. This was the first tournament in about 8 years I was genuinely excited for and it's about the worst of the lot. We have over-hyped players and a dwindling pool of managerial candidates. It's a shame Jose took the United job really.

To be honest at this stage I don't even care about success anymore, I just want some entertainment. Bielsa would be good, he's absolutely nuts and could quit at anytime. Realistically Southgate has been groomed for years though and even though to basically everyone else it's obvious he will be the next McLaren, you just know he'll get it.

The FA are pussies and won't take a risk.

He's just backed up my assertion by quitting as Lazio coach after 2 days.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...

Seconded! Noel for England manager. Pick a few other old time entertainers as coaches to keep the spirits up in the dressing room. Bobby Davro assistant. Griff Rhys Jones tactics. Phillip Schofield and Andy Peters in there too. Sorted. Nailed on for World Cup 2018.

Paul Danan will have to have a role.

Hodgson had International experience with Switzerland and did a reasonable job
