Anyone who thinks Murray will set the Premier League on fire next season is delusional. He won't be good enough, won't play much, might score a goal or two, but will probably be sold to a Championship club again.

To some on this thread, every bad result since Murray was sold would have been avoided had he been playing, presumably scoring hat tricks every game and leading England to World Cup glory to boot.

Agreed. Having Murray wouldn't have stopped us conceding at Swansea for example...

Employee of the month is a good example of how someone can be both a winner and a loser at the same time.

Selling Muzza was madness.

It was a mistake. He has gone on to literally drag Brighton up to the Premier league and we have done little more than flirt with relegation both seasons since he went.

There is still the desperate prospect we will replace Brighton in the Championship next season. Our lack of cover up front has been an embarrassment to the Pardew/Parish axis this season with Loic Remedy and Fraizer Campbell as our back ups - in this context, Murray's sale has been basically an own goal.

He wasn't happy being on the bench here and welcomed leaving to play.

What's your answer to that?

I hope Immer Palace can answer for themselves, but for me it is obvious.

Don't leave GM on the bench when you have a struggling lump like Connor Wickham toiling away up front, who in his career has never been as prolific as Glenn.

The question is on here and now. How does he solve having Murray as back up within Murray wanting to play and Benteke being first choice?

I think it is easy to overlook what Murray brought to Palace. I would not have expected him to start every match - but I think we would have gained more points in the seasons since he left had he stayed.

As regards his happiness to be benched - if it were about that you would have expected him to seek assurances from the odious Eddie Howe before signing and being benched there.

He, and people believing the "first team football" thing, would have to be a bit naive to believe that wouldn't they?

As it is, he is firing Brighton to new heights and we remain balanced on the precipice......

Pardew was an idiot.

I also expect he will be earning more than Wilf.. go figure.

Murray left because either Howe told him he expected Murray to play a lot or Murray thought he would play a lot? What other reason do you have for him leaving? Bournemouth being huge salary payers. Come on. What?

If you've ever played football you'll know how frustrating it is to not be selected or be injured. And more to the point, what's your reason for him leaving Bournemouth and joining Brighton to play every week? Your argument has more holes than a sieve.

I didn't want him to go and wish he was still here but Warnock loaned him out to play and then when Bournemouth later came in with an offer from a football club to play football, if Murray really wanted he could've dug his heels in and carried on chatting to Campbell on the bench.

Like Rudi I would have liked Glenn to stay but he has gone.

Wickham has done ok for us but has been unlucky with injuries. He is still only 24, a good couple of years before he hits his peak. At 24 Murray was playing for Rochdale.

Murray will go down as a legend for this club and rightly so but we have to get over this obsession with past players.

I know someone that knows Glenn. He didn't get on with Eddie Howe because Howe wanted him to play a different style of football and Murray was unable to play any differently.

Read into that what you will. For me that equates to a very one dimensional player that can only play well when presented with a good service. Perhaps you could say the same about Benteke and it's only new that we are improving on our delivery into the box. But back when we were struggling to score goals, Murray would've been up front on his own barely seeing the ball. That's not the case at Brighton. He's up front with another striker and some midfielders who can really pass the ball in a league where you get just a little bit longer on the ball. It totally suits his style and his ability.

Murray is not a good player without a service, it wasn't just a lack of a decent striker that dried up our goals. Yes we could probably provide him with a good service now, but he wouldn't have scored many more than Fraizer Campbell (IMO) with the service we were providing to the attackers at the time we let him go.

And don't for one second think I don't appreciate what he did for us in our promotion season. I have nothing personal against him (apart from the fact he's playing for Them now) and will always think of him as a player that contributed something fantastic to the club.

Yes it was mentioned on here that Howe couldn't get Murray to play how he wanted. £4 mil was a chunk for Bournemouth then so I'd say they counted in him playing a big part. It was in the next window they realised they needed to spend more and shelled out for Afobe whilst we sent Bamford back and instead paid Adebayor £67k and kept our transfer fees back and got Benteke in the next window.
