Of course we never went into the relegation zone at any point over the season. Which is an improvement over the last two seasons. I don't know, its frustrating that we were 5th and finished 15th, but it was quite an achievement to be fifth, and had an amazing 12 months (which included a best ever finish in the premier league) and we were runners up in the FA Cup, if we threw in those premiership wins from the cup as league wins, we'd finished a lot higher (and given four of the five were premiership teams)... But I think Pardew needs a decent start to the season. Given that the league results against those 5 teams in the second half of the season were W1 D0 L4 and the cup results were W4 D1 L0 (after 90mins) if you swapped the results we would have been 10 points higher and finished 9th.... As we ended up 10 mins away from winning a trophy I think AP made the right decision.

Expect plenty of disappointment... and an endless re-hash of the tired old argument: Yes, I do understand SP's intentions of running a tight ship given what we have been through but why can't we just show a bit of ambition... blah blah... millions more dosh with the new TV deal... blah blah... An argument that conveniently forgets the number of available players, the number who offer what we need and the numerous other teams aiming for the same prize. Fans - face it. We have strayed once from the path of fiscal prudence for our French chap and are likely to stray again this summer... but I suspect not enough. We are not an attractive proposition. We operate out of relatively dilapidated facilities and [wisely or otherwise] do not compete with our competitors for wages. And as for being in London we are quite a way out from all the action. Nope, like it or not 3 seasons in and we are still not far off competition with Bournemouth, Watford and the newly promoted teams; Stoke and Swansea are better payers; and any team in Europe - forget it. I know it's hard to endure, but given what we have we do pretty well - don't we? We're as close to the action as 50-80 grand a week will get you in London. I'd be looking at living in a mansion on Clapham/Wandsworth common or Wimbledon Village with that kinda dosh. With a very short drive/walk to lots of action and also a short drive to training. From that point of view, there's not many clubs in England that are a more attractive proposition. Edited by Brentmiester_General (07 Jun 2016 9.01pm)

Edited by Brentmiester_General (07 Jun 2016 9.01pm) Surely the players would choose to live in Thornton Heath so they can walk to the ground? Or Penge so they can get to Beckenham and Selhurst easily. Or if they insist on some greenery then it's got to be New Addington with its handy tram stops.

It is the job of the manager/board to sell the club to a player. Yes currently we dont have the best infrastructure around, be we have 2 billionaire american backers that have redone at least one of their teams stadiums in the states and are going to sort ours out. We have a team that is exciting and can beat anyone on its day, a few good additions to that squad and we can be looking at top 10 for next season. It all depends on what the player wants for themselves. They could sign for Chelsea for example, after seeing everything they have and all the facilities but never once use them with the first team as they will be loaned out to lower standard/division clubs and have to deal with their infrastructure instead or they could come to us who have plans to upgrade everything which would very much benefit them
