Kept it quiet didn't they?! Just shows it's possible to keep transfer targets out of the media. Maybe Remy was just a smokescreen? Either way I think this is a good signing. Remember Wickham was playing in a consistently sh*t Sunderland side, and kept them up almost single-handed a couple of seasons ago. I hope we keep Murray and let Wickham and Bamford learn from him. His experience will be invaluable to a young, hungry striker and with the forwards we now have I'm confident we'll score lots of goals this season. Get a decent CB partner for Dann and we've had a very good window indeed

Murray's experience is more his whole football career. ..exactly. We're talking two different kinds of experience here. Murray has "football" experience, which is to say experience across the game that's given him a "football brain." Regardless of the level at which he's picked up that experience, he's attuned to the nuances of defenders and instinctively knows how to use his attributes to the best effect. Thus, even though is not a physical specimen, he's hugely influential on the pitch. He's what used to be called a "player's player." Wickham, on the other hand, has far more high level "match experience" than Murray but that doesn't substitute for craft. He has the raw talent to be a much better player than Murray, but right now his football brain isn't even close to being as developed. If the pair can work in tandem; if over the next two seasons Murray can mentor Wickham, then we may get the best of both worlds. For now and for me personally, there is absolutely no way I would sell Murray not least because he is more valuable to us than any fee he would command on the transfer market.

At 6M+ he's a steal. A young hungry striker who just needs to be played in the right position and get some service. I think we are looking sorted at the front... just one more big signing to go at the back. It's a bit scary. I've never felt this confident before in the pre-season. Dare I dream that we will be consistently mixing it with the top teams in the Prem. A fashionable club with aspirations for a cup run? COYP.

What a great bit of business-No one saw it coming until its done! Snatched a young Premiership striker probably partly due to our exciting attacking lineup. Congratulations to the board & AP for this one.

Couldn't agree more, Syd. Don't know about you but I do find it a little hard to get used to, though.

If Remy was Plan A and we weren't going to get him, this is better than any of the other Plan B's I've heard mentioned. It's like my grand-pappie always used to say; "if you can't cut your sandwiches length-ways, cut them diagonally, you still get to eat sandwiches"
