There are good people and bad people out there and it has nothing to do with skin colour, religion, or anything else. Some humans are horrible.
I am a hairdresser and talk to almost all different nationalities on offer in Croydon. We all seem to be the same. I love the diversity.
I think all the problems come from people not talking to each other, not connecting with strangers, being suspicious instead of open. I also believe that with social media this will get more problematic over time.
Really sad because most of my clients are great to chat with- great stories and anecdotes. Everyone has a story if you're willing to listen.
I've got food and shelter tonight and a loving family and a few good mates.........and a passion for Palace.
I am incredibly grateful

Commonality with a diverse range of people discovered and appreciated through actual real life interactions. Great! Sounds like an obvious approach, but many prefer to keep to whatever they deem 'their own kind' to be.

The number of people who actually 'want' to live amongst diverse cultures is relatively low compared to those who don't.

The majority of those who have the financial muscle tend to live amongst people who share common cultural heritage with them.

What's your factual evidence for this?

Edited by legaleagle (21 Apr 2015 10.20pm)

No factual evidence, but actually pretty near the mark I would say. Example, I live in a neighborhood where the only time you see a 'White' person are the teachers who commute in for work and maybe the odd cop as well as the occasional utility worker. From my experience people who bang on about living in a 'diverse community' nearly always live amongst there own.

I know you simply mean 'their own race' but the phrase itself sounds so all encompassing doesn't it? 'Their own' sounds like absolutely everything about this 'other' person is different, that the colour of someones skin is of primary and foremost importance. Familiarity is important, I get that, but we need to be careful not to imagine ourselves further apart than we already are.

I'm just pondering the phrase rather than you in particular saying it .

Oh I don't know....lets see...white flight from London, the large Asian population in Birmingham....There are so many examples of this factor of human nature.

Let's see what your 'logic' says is the reality.

He lives it. He see's it. Just as we all do regardless of our colour/race/religion.

You appear to rely on 'polls/meaningless statistics' above 'human experience' for some reason? Wrong way round.
You want him to be wrong when you really know he's right.
Why?

it is at the most hearsay, a bit like your response "agreed" purely means that you personally don't want to live near black, brown, yellow, or green skinned people.

Statistically, you would actually find, for example, Asian, for example, as they move up the social strata moving to more affluent areas.

The issue with some midland and northern cities is that very poor unskilled labour was bought in to supply the mills etc., which no longer exist. No effort was put in to educating the first generation of immigrants, or subsequent generations and these families have no way of getting out of these sink holes and hence back-lash against the perceived norm etc.

Read what was written ffs.
My 'agreed' was in response to MANY cultures seemingly not wanting to mix! It has nothing to do with my ethnicity or where I bloody live but everything to do with my observations.

Ah, if we are playing Neighbour Top Trumps........the number of people who are truly bothered by living amongst other cultures is relatively low compared to those that aren't.

See London for millions of examples.

Not being truly bothered means they get on with it rather than wasting their time worrying about something which doesn't really register. Good on 'em.
