No need to throw money out the windom for a player who have not proven him self in premier leauge yet.We stick to what we got

GAYLE AND MURRAY- GAYLE AND MURRAY

Walsh and Swindlehurst....Walsh and Swindlehurst

Not sure Murray has proved himself in the Premier League. We, as a club have to move on and the signs are positive, so lets move on and if that means Murray does not stay so be it.

Murray hasn't proved himself in the Premier League - he really hasn't had the opportunity to. a couplue Of run outs here and there, isn't enough to prove himself.
I'd like AP to keep faith with Murray in the Starting Lineup - at least for the next 3 games. Problem is, the later it gets in the season the more we cannot afford to be hoping he Proves himself. Give him the opportunity whilst there's still time.

Would be sad to see Murray go but we have to be hard headed and focus on staying up. If we can get somebody better eg Cisse in the remaining days of the transfer window we have to go for it.

Have to say I'm not convinced, certainly not for 6m anyway.

He's had one good year in the Championship, was poor there with Cardiff and couldn't make any impact at all in the Premier League in the early parts of last season.

Happy to be proven wrong but if we're only going to play with one striker I'd like to think we could do better than Gestede.

Palace Radio: What exactly does David Wright bring to the side?

Alan Lee: Nothing.

Rudy Gestede: 26 years old, Deceptively quick, get's his head on 96% of his areal challenges, 6'4" tall, can use both feet to score goals. eager to make his mark in the premiership. Why the hell would we need a player like that when Lionel Messi is available?

Strikers are all about converting the service and support they get from other players around them. I refer you to Mark Bright's record before he joined Palace.

Sorry but I'm not convinced that our midfield provide a good enough service to the players we have, and nothing I've seen to date convinces me that'll change anytime soon, we do not have a creative midfielder.

Our three goals on Saturday came from a run and shot from an attacking midfielder; a cross from an attacking midfielder put in that another midfielder nearly scored from which fell to a striker; and a cross field pass from an attacking midfielder.

Our goals against Tottenham came from an attacking midfielder beating his man, putting a cross in and an attacking midfielder scoring; from a midfielder being fouled for a penalty; and Murray missed a 1 on 1 having been put through by a midfielder.

We may not play defence splitting passes every game, but who does at this level? To say that we don't have a creative midfielder is off the mark. The ability is there but they were just being played too deep. It's no coincidence that we've suddenly scored 5 in 2 by putting our creative midfielders in advanced positions.

The whole idea of the transfer market is not only to fill existing needs but to move the club forward. To say we shouldn't bring in a player because what we have right now were good enough in the past or don't fit the club's past style just won't work in today's ever evolving game. In 1989, many Palace supporters said we didn't need a new keeper, Perry Suckling was good enough to get us promoted to the top flight, he's good enough for the top flight. Results early that season proved not only that Palace need an upgrade at keeper but also the back four. Enter Nigel Martyn and Andy Thorn. To say Gestede wouldn't prosper and move Palace forward is a terribly pessimistic way of looking at things. Palace needs to be a "can do" club, not a "can't fail." I understand that the club's financial situation isn't up there with the lodsa dosh clubs. What happened in the past is just that, past. We learn from the mistakes but we don't act fearfully about the future. If anything, that's what Alan Pardew's appointment represents, a new way forward for the Eagles, one that builds upon the past and expands upon it for the present and future. He isn't here just to keep Palace up, he's here to move us up the table to heights Palace have promised but haven't delivered ("Team of the Eighties," 3rd Place and Wembley Cup winners in 1990-91, etc.). I want to look back ten years from now and see Palace contending for a European place annually and winning domestic honours. That can only be done through adding a few players in the transfer market to augment a thriving youth development program. We have the basis if the latter, now we need some of the former.

You mean like Gayle ? If we wish to get another striker, unless we go for a journeyman PL player possibly pass their sell by date can't see how we will get one that isn't unproven ? Gestede looks the type of player that would fit in the team and is youngish, playing well, just like Gayle was when he bought him.

I'll dump a bit of stats as courtesy of Opta.

Gestede vs. Gayle (normalized to per 90 mins)

Average shots: 3.9 vs. 2.6
Outside box shots: 0.5 vs. 0.1
Dribble attempts: 0.7 vs. 0.7
Aerials (and won): 18.9 (11.2) vs. 5.5 (1.9)
Passes: 31.3 vs. 21.4
Key passes: 1.4 vs. 1
Goals: 0.6 vs. 0.7
Attempted tackles: 0.6 vs. 1.2
Interceptions: 0.3 vs. 0.7
Clearances: 2.8 vs. 0.7

Of course, these stats are PL vs. Championship, so one should approach with caution, but judging by these figures, I think we can observe a few things:

1- Gestede is more involved in the work related to attacking than Gayle, although his hit rate is not higher. He shoots more, passes more and gets more key passes.

2- He looks like a proper target man and an average of 19 aerial duels is very impressive. Chamakh's per 90 mins is half of this and Jedi plays with 8. He is better than Andy Carroll, too.

3- Gayle is a more all around player in that he works hard to tackle and close down but Gestede is probably coming with some contribution to defensive set pieces judging by those clearances.

Stats is not the only thing of course and I didn't have a chance to see this guy other than a couple of Youtube videos, but he looks very good on numbers.

We need to sort Gestede quick before we accidentally sign Modeste instead, with whom we've also been linked with.
