Someone's got to be the mouthpiece, the conduit of information at Palace. I don't want to see Pullis or Moody wasting their time either constantly updating the media or spending time online answering questions. Let the people doing the actual work get on and do it, while members of the board keep up the updates.

Well I would rather hear updates where necessary from Tony Pulis but only if he actually had something to say.

How do you think Arsenal supporters would feel if they were given regular updates that didn't actually say anything from Sir Chips Keswick. There would be an outcry as the only views that Arsenal supporters are interested in are those of Arsene Wenger

We have, with both the previous and current regime, sufferred from 'chairman overload' when it comes to dealings with the media. I don't really mind who makes the important announcements (although I'd prefer it to be the manager) but could the designated spokespersons please button it until there is actually something of significance to say; to be fair, in that respect, TP is a model of rectitude.

I cannot believe how massively impressed with Tony Pulis I am. Bexley has just pointed out yet another reason why we're so lucky to have him. TBH if I had a senior manager like that in my company who was the expert in the area in which I did business, I'd keep my mouth zipped and wheel him out to be my spokesperson on every possible occasion. He is intelligent, informed, knowledgeable, media-genic, and articulate. In front of the cameras talking about any aspect of football, Parish simply pales in comparison.

Two points:

1. I'm not remotely interested whether Browett (or any of the board) think Jelavic is no better than Jerome. But if Pulis feels he isn't then that's good enough for me. So as long as TP and not he board made the decision, I'm fine with it. But I wish Browett had said "Tony thinks..." rather than the way the OP here phrased it ("the board think...).

2. I don't know if you guys are medically aware at all, but Murray's injury was a major one. It's generally considered sensible to give it a year before returning; it's quite possible to do it in 9 months but that doesn't make it advisable. Anyway, my point is that anything we get out of Murray this season should be considered an unexpected bonus. We really should not be relying on him returning in any way.

...you're right syd, no way should we expect anything from Mr Murray, he is now left with trusting the repaired leg and that can reduce sadly his impact to a degree where everyone will end up hating him!
No one can predict how things are going to pan out for us with goalscoring and cover for players and of course we have no say... I still feel along the lines that we do not need to and that somebody is going to become a hero in that department, in so much that they will score enough.

I agree that Shane Long & Jelavic are better than Jerome,

What's the odds that either Jelavic or Long score against us ?

...the reason of where we are now, is because of our preventions....not our goalscoring.

Tricky one - if the board say nothing, we'd all be moaning about being kept in the dark. If they make announcements, they're media whores.

I don't for a moment suspect that "Jelovic is no better than what we have" is/was a decision taken by the board - it simply must have been with the approval of TP or IM and probably both. If that were not the case, I'd suspect TP would have been throwing his toys out of the pram (and rightly so).

I feel our current board are victims of their desire to keep us plebs informed (as fans themselves). We all congratulated them for that approach in the early days, now it seems there's a bit of a backlash and a percepotion that they court the limelight.

I'm personally not that bothered either way, as long as the players TP/IM want come in and the progress continues. Going down would see us financially secure, but I wouldn't see us coming back up for the foreseeable future (unless we get lucky again).

In fairness to SB these quotes that everyone has debated for 13 pages on here come from the BBS in answer to direct questions.

Completely understand where you're coming from on this however...is it 'really' such an issue that its not mentioned or phrased in the way you or I would like?

Surely the most important thing is that the club is built and moves forward on stable foundations getting the right player/manager/DoF that fits with the clubs aspirations at this moment in time, as opposed to semantics?

I agree.
They are damned when they do and would be damned if they did not ! I think the engagement with supporters is to be welcomed.

I think ultimately this is true (that they are damned if they do and damned if they don't), but it's somewhat ironic. Here's why. In a number of posts recently, those who disagree with the board over our transfer policy have been criticised (often unfairly) as being a reflection of a modern age where we want everything immediately and are not prepared to wait for things to happen. It's true; in so far as a lack of patience is certainly a hallmark of the world we now live in. But it's not without irony that the same people who are lauding the board for their presumed patience and financial restraint are the same people who also applaud their engagement with supporters, which in reality is only likely to encourage false expectations, increase frustration, and encourage second-guessing.

This is not to criticise supporters or the board in any personal way. It is simply to raise the subject for discussion. My only conclusion is that for a long time (in history), the board of a football club would not have felt the need to directly update supporters on future policy (indeed, even as recently as a decade ago this was true) and I don't think it is at all clear that having a board who communicate with us through an Internet fan site and seem determined to talk in fairly granular detail on confidential subjects is a good thing.

Again, that is not to openly criticise CPFC2010...it it merely to say that I do not think it is absolutely clear that their communications strategy is sensible or desirable. And as Parish is a "media expert", I think it's quite appropriate to question him about this. I don't (personally) think it follows at all that "all noise is good noise" when it come to speaking out or that the board discussing future transfer possibilities with fans is a desirable state of affairs.

I think we need to move beyond the notion that the board are good because of the way they communicate with supporters. There isn't any evidence that at least some areas of their conversation are helping anyone and it's far from certain that discussion before the fact is preferable to a lucid and full explanation after the fact. Either way, I think this is a central point that merits discussion. I also think some fans are very lightweight and not intellectually very rigorous in their analysis; they are so flattered and impressed that the board is even speaking to them that their palpable delight blinds them to asking questions that still need to be asked.
