I have sympathy for most, but not for some perhaps. It'll be interesting.. Here's a link to their Cornwall Facebook page. Edited by Stirlingsays (17 Jan 2021 12.26pm) I think you will find that is Wissies bowls club

I had no idea that a local anti-fascist group existed in Penzance. Good to know. I don't though suppose it has more than a handful of members as fascism is not really evident here. You encounter the odd nutcase but it's a rarity. Their aims seem pretty benign and their activity not much to do with fascism, judging by the recent comments. "against fascism, racism, and right wing extremism in Kernow. Non-sectarian, pro devolution. What's not to like about that? Provided they keep to those aims and make their points peacefully most folk here would support them of that I am quite sure. Pro-devolution? For Cornwall? Good get on with it, should give the rest of the country a good laugh

Mebyon Kernow is the party and all very caring people they are with a very genuine sense of public service, together with a somewhat unrealistic expectation of being a separate region, like Wales.
For the avoidance of doubt any comments in response to a previous post are directed to its ideas and not at any, or all, posters personally. |

So what makes them think Cornish people are so different to everyone else?

I guess much like people attributing importance to either genetics (which differ wildly between individuals in groups anyway), history, or a geographical tribe, the answer is, 'because they believe that they are'. Some Cornish people view themselves as somewhat ethnically distinct due to their local history and the specific tribes that inhabited the region hundreds of years back. It seems a little curious to me, but it's not really any different than adopting any other identity I suppose. They are actually a declared national minority .

I'm surprised they didn't tell you to go back home. "Cornwall for Cornish people, no interlopers".

So they do have ethnic minorities there Because they are at the arse end of England, cut off by Devon to the rest of the UK and no one really gives a damn about the place other than as somewhere to get stuck in a traffic jam during the summer. Oh and the fact that there is a quaint Gaelic language that about 3 of them can speak that they believe entitles them to being classed as a separate country..

But they are happy to be funded by the taxpayers from the rest of the country.
