Roy will learn from mistakes. His past record is not that bad, and at smaller clubs such as Fulham he proved to be very successful. For excitement, glamour and glitz etc he is not what anyone would want, but having been left in a difficult situation we need some stability for next couple of seasons just to settle down and I think this could be ideal without busting the bank. Maybe he could mould Lee into next manager as he hasn't done great in the past but maybe with a bit more time this could change. As many have said already, whoever Parish picks I support the decision and will give 100% backing as normal.

If we appoint hodgson, shows a total lack of ambition. He's 70 in August for Christ sake. This appointment should be a manager that potentially at Palace for the next 4 years. Brendan Rodgers would be my choice. Edited by GladAllOver27 (30 May 2017 9.20pm)

Really? I read this as he likes the diagonal long pass, likes his defence to press up and link with the midfield and likes his Centre Forward to occupy both Centre Backs to create space. Sounds quite familiar to me. What am I missing? Edited by Mapletree (30 May 2017 8.25pm) Let's add Tuchel to the shortlist! Are you listening Parish?!

He isn't my ideal or preferred choice no, he isn't but would 1 year or 2 years of Roy be a sensible appointment. It probably would. Every year we grow, the stronger we become. Coyp Roy Hodgson and 'sensible appointment'' should never belong in the same sentence.

This is a marmite choice. My main reason for thinking this is not so bad is the fact that having seen what Lee did to our players and how much they enjoy working with him, I just feel Hodgson would keep this in place. Any of the other candidates being mentioned are likely to change everything again, and I think the players need some kind of stability given the numerous changes that have gone on in the past few years. The other issue with taking on a new up and coming manager is we are in a no win situation. He does well and leaves to a bigger club, he does bad and we are in another relegation fight and out looking again for yet another manager. Yes Roy is old, but tactics are in place with Lee and I'm sure Roy won't change this too much. He also is unlikley to want to leave and we can then consider options in a few years without another big change.

Hodgson. Disappointment. Doesn't matter weather he's good for what he did with Fulham or bad because of what he did with England, he's an old boring manager. For all those who are saying we should get him just to keep sammy lee, do you really think sammy is THAT good? Just asking the question.

I would against appointing a manager just to retain sammy lee.

Let's hope Dortmund appoint Woy as a stop gap boss. Think he speaks German so it's a win win situation.

And Tuchel would be a good choice? I give him 3-6 months before he kicks off with Parish about getting involved too much(expecially transfers and contracts). His past would suggest he wants complete control of everything and Parish has a habit of sticking his oar in every so often. And yes I would like to keep Lee. he has been the best coach we have had for many years.... Edited by Palace 1979 (30 May 2017 9.47pm)

If keeping Sammy Lee is a consideration, we should maybe look harder at Mauricio Pellegrino, who has a strong record with Argentinian clubs and did an excellent job at Alaves last season. He worked with Sammy Lee under Benitez at Liverpool - Sammy as assistant manager and MP as first team coach.
