That's not what we're talking about Future prosperity would come from growth, investment and personal / consumer wealth We've had austerity, lack of investment, our deficit is still higher than its ever been and personal debt is at record levels, 15k per household How will the UK prosper if the country is broke? That’s because we’re an economy built on consumerism. It was an obvious problem due addressing in 2008 and still is now. What you’re indirectly hoping for is more of the same. Unless we change our approach to business and (worldwide) trading and alter our economy, jobs and what we expect from work we will never be anything more than loads of individuals who like to shop but not to make. That is unsustainable as is our economy and our reliance on it and our expectations of living standards from it. This is another reason why I voted Brexit. There are opportunities out there for us to begin realigning our economy and jobs, and yes I know we aren’t set up or the kind of country to do this, which is why I’ve used my vote to force them to do it. It won’t be easy, I fully expect it to be very hard for some for some time, but it’s worth trying, especially as unless we’re shopping at Curry’s, DFS and the rest of the retail park the economy is stuffed. That cannot go on forever but you can bet your life the o da to moan the most will be those most cosy and those who wouldn’t dream of their offspring getting their smooth hands a little dirty, even though lots of engineers and tradesmen make lots of average office job pay seem like pocket money. What a pathetic country we are right now. Truly embarrassing. Not Brexit. The weak wristed who can’t touch a peace of meat or slice an onion. Pull yourselves together and see it through.

Can you imagine a life and continent where if you want to perform one particular role you’d have to move thousands of miles away? Or have your options limited because of not only mass migration all over the place but because job types are narrower in the place you live and want to stay. And people, mainly the young, are talking about having their options taken away, or even their futures taken away from them or their futures destroyed. Well they may have voted for never seeing their children again after early twenties apart from once or twice a year. Screw all that. And the point about being controlled by powerful monopolies is a very pertinent point. Pay and locations are incredibly important and the people and businesses in control don’t give one ounce of a shoit about anyone affected by these and don’t convince yourselves they do.

No surprise to see leavers preparing their excuses for failure well in advance.

Edited by Stirlingsays (09 Jan 2019 10.49am) Good luck with that then When you build your time machine and go back to the fifties, write me a letter and put it in a time capsule for opening on 15 January 2019. I shall enjoy reading it. Meanwhile I shall work with a globalising world and homogeneous brands and media largely dominated by our US cousins.

Don't worry at this stage in proceedings I'm fairly sure you will get what you think you want.

I live in mainland Europe and your view on Europe could not be more wrong, sounds like a perception stemmed from the media rather than first hand experience

Looks like a 2nd referendum is drawing closer after yesterday's vote. The Tories are sinking like the titanic

If only we copied the USA and shut-down the UK. How about permanently. Things could only get better......

What does that say about 'globalisation'......that the time of the fifties is considered series of magnitude better than the world the neo liberals are dishing up. You seem to suggest that I should be satisfied with a s***e sandwich and perhaps I stick some pepper onto it to favour it better. No, how about I point the finger at the people who made the s***e sandwich in the first place......and lied about how it would taste while they made it. Edited by Stirlingsays (09 Jan 2019 11.34am)

The British don't tend to like being treated like naughty children.
