October 7th was a terrorist attack. The 3 months of massacring 26,000 civilians and displacement of millions more is the genocide. It has nothing to do with ‘the left’, and it’s very telling you frame your argument in this way - the ICJ have ruled there is a plausible case that genocide is taking place, and anyone approaching this with a shred of honesty can see what it is. It’s also like the word ‘anti-semitic’ being thrown around by people more desperate to point score on a football forum than be honest. This is the politics section of the forum and sadly there are a few here that are anti semitic in the Corbyn tradition.

I can't believe civilised people support their morally bankrupt politicians over Gaza, do they think we are blind to the suffering of innocent Palestinian mothers and children? Seeing this every night is sickening. The two-state solution would be generous to Israel, they should be forced back to their original borders and made to pay for the damage they have wreaked, and also for their own security arrangements.
Hamas simply has to stop fighting, surrender all combatants , give up all weapons , return whatever hostages are still alive and accept the right of Israel to exist.

There is very little coverage of a war. I see the IDF moving around destroyed civilian areas. Injured/homeless/starving civilians. Where is this war being conducted ? I see no parades of captured/killed Hamas fighters. No daily updates to the press of how the war is going. Just photographs of smashed civilian areas. Maybe I'm just old-fashioned in the ways wars used to be conducted.

Indeed, in the early days there was plenty of detail, now as you say not much coverage

You may care to investigate the situation between Israel and Palestine for the preceding decades. Particularly the expanding borders of Israel into Palestinian land, where new Israeli settlers were armed with American military weapons and equipment and a licence to kill (Palestinians) without fear of prosecution.

Maybe you should look a little further back and see why the victims of centuries of oppression and murder have become the aggressors. I don't condone their actions, but I do understand them. It makes me more certain that fighting to keep our country secular is vital, and that allowing religious loons into this country was the biggest mistake we might have ever made.

So the US was hitting proxy-Iranian targets in order to protect it's shipping from Houthis. Now hitting targets in Syria and Iraq, Iran is now making threats. It's going to be a nervy few months to see if this can be contained. All to play for. And all to lose Edited by Forest Hillbilly (04 Feb 2024 8.11am)

Edited by HKOwen (03 Feb 2024 10.06am) But will people in Gaza have reason to attack Israel? Over 2 million people crammed into a space 1/6 the size of London. With no ability to come and go as they wish. With their access to utilities controlled by other countries. And now having seen 10,000s of their friends and families killed. There is no peace deal possible. There never was. Which is the entire point. Israel has embarked on a policy of ethnic cleansing. Now I believe the entire October 7th terrorist attack (and that is what it was, I make no excuses) was entirely orchestrated by elements in the Israel for an excuse to do what they are currently doing to Gaza. With Hammas needing little encouragement. Back in July 2005, the scum who bombed the transport in system arrived at Luton railway station and left their car there. They hated the UK but they had a choice to leave. All British passport holders and with a myriad of opportunities to take off and live somewhere else. They chose not. The people who attacked Israel on October 7th did not have those options to just leave. Again, no excusing what they did on October 7th. But merely trying to put it into context in terms of the wider conditions that created it. The terrorists were scum on October 7th. Zero doubts. But I have seen enough evidence of the IDF blowing up peoples homes and destroying infastructure in Gaza for me to conclude they are also scum. f*** Hamas. f*** Israel. And not one European life for either.

Suppose Israel declares Gaza Hamas free and it's a fresh start. If then Palestinians in Gaza continue with attacks on Israel then it's back to square one. What elements in Israel do you believe orchestrated the attack on October 7th?
