Currently, there is no pressing reason to sack Hodgson. He has done and will probably continue to do what is required of him which is to ensure PL survival. I'm not saying that this should be the extent of our ambition, but given what we've been through over the last 40 years, to be looking at hopefully moving into a 9th consecutive season in the PL will be some achievement. Although Hodgson has said that he has the strongest squad he's had so far in his tenure, this is not the same as saying we have a great squad or even a strong squad especially when we compare ourselves to the other clubs in this league. Our age profile is such that we can only become weaker unless we offload some of our older players and replace them with younger ones with the capacity to improve. The key period for us will be from the West Ham Game until the end of Feb during which period we have 7 winnable games. Our points tally before the Spurs away game at the beginning of March may well decide whether or not we will be facing a relegation battle as we have an even worse run-in than last season. Doombear, may I congratulate you on an excellent post. Edited by Willo (01 Jan 2021 11.29pm)

I'm not picking on you specifically, but I doubt the criteria for sacking the manager is anything other than relegation. In the past it has been the strong possibility of relegation and not the actual deed with us

I f we lose today, we will move into a very dodgy place but I very much doubt it will affect Roy or any older crocked players having their contracts renewed. Top of the list being Sakho and wickham and of corse Roy.

I am not in the know but I would have thought that if we were going to replace Roy mid season we would have done so around the same time as WBA appointed Sam (Give or take a week) so as to give the new guy a couple weeks to see the team / work with them & then make the best use of the Jan transfer window (with some form of war chest- however limited) given that we didn't do that I would suggest that he will be in situ for at least the rest of the season unless we find ourselves in serious trouble among the bottom 3 & not looking as though we can play our way out - the only caveat(s) I would add to that is of course if a seriously stand out candidate that we cannot overlook suddenly becomes available or Roy himself decides he has had enough.

Having nailed my colours firmly to the mast, you watch, we will get heavily beaten today by Sheffield Utd & Roy will be out on his arse by tonight, lol

Being comfortable or in a dodgy place is decided by more then one game, so far this season we have accumulated nineteen points playing this way or that and our manager will obviously look at every game due to our position ..he tried the Eze experiment I feel when we had the required position to do so, it had to change and has done so so I tend to believe and hope today will be the same and also hope to see Eze come on if the result suits, more hopefully of course I'd rather see Eze play from the beginning but I fear our passing will let everyone down, who knows.

Stats are not BS unless they are false. Indeed they are not, but I said "The bulls*** stats continually posted, selectively". All stats are just that. Stats. The only ones that matter are the points we have. All other chosen stats about how many clean sheets, goals scored, games won/lost, offsides by strikers, points per game, etc., are pure fluff. None of them matter if we have more points accrued than games played. Which we have. You don't sack a manager because he achieves the target asked. Which Roy has done, and is on course to do again. Just because you, and many others, think we should be top 10 on a regular basis is neither here nor there. Post any stats you like, but unless it looks like we will be relegated, Roy will be here until he wishes to retire.
