McCarthy could be one that’s on his way out Villa & Celtic interested this could happen in next 2 weeks.

Palace bringing in at least 3 more players.

Hi Dazza

Useful info as always. Many thanks. If McCarty does go, then I am assuming we would need to bring in a younger DM, as well as a box to box CM, a wide player and a striker?

I just don’t understand why this would happen. I’d be surprised if he went to Celtic, they are out of Champs league now and to match his current wages for them would be a stretch surely.

If you’re going to spunk that sort of money, probably best to spunk it on attacking players.

Villa....maybe but why would we sell to a relegation rival? Hearing noises we’re going to be more attacking this season but there are still players I’d get rid of before him.

I guess if the money is right though ...

Plus why the heck would we go and get another lump/target man when we just don't play that way. Benteke and Wickham I believe are both better strikers than Wood...it's just Burnley use him properly and we don't.

(This is coming from a Kiwi who's seen a fair bit of Wood.)

Given our dearth of goals perhaps we should play in a way way whereby a 'Target man' is used to play to his strengths.

Yeah, I couldn't agree more. Either persist with Benteke/Wickham and put crosses into the box earlier (excited by Fraser with this in mind)...or stick to our current tactics (muck around with short, sharp passes around their box) but then focus on bringing in a poacher/finisher, run-in-behinder. Sturridge, for example would be a good shout.

I can’t see McCarthy going anywhere.

We’re being linked with Wellbeck today and Hodgson’s a big fan of his.
It’s a big no from me.
The Wellbeck of a few years ago, certainly, but not the current model who cannot stay fit.
We already have two strikers in Benteke and Wickham who cannot stay fit or contribute to the team so why add a third?
Although Wellbeck may seem a cheap option I’m sure his wages would not be and I was hoping we were moving away from ‘papering over the cracks’ type signings.
I suppose a pay per play deal option or performance related deal could be an option but I’d prefer we looked elsewhere.
I think it could tick the boxes for Hodgson though - he knows him, he’s experienced and he works hard.

I actually think Wellbeck might not be a bad signing if we could bring him in on a reasonable wage. If you look at Eze at QPR he has the ability to find through balls that could make use of DW's pace. Remember everyone was very sceptical when we were linked with Ings due to his injuries and look how that turned out (albeit they're different styles of player). Not my first choice, but better than nothing.

At his peak Welbeck was a better player for England that he was for his club. He has never been a prolific goal scorer however if the price is right he would be a great addition as long as he is a backup striker. I would also be happy if we went for Troy Deeny as an alternative on the same terms.

Conor is just a straight loan no option to buy.

We are also back in for Bright Osayi Samuel if Fraser goes elsewhere.

Also still in for young CB & then finally a Striker.

At club level, Welbeck's ratio of goals to games averages 1:5.
For England about 1:3.
