True So how long do you think it will take to turn the whole thing around, get more Nurses into the system and prevent the outflow? Before answering, take a look at how many people there are currently studying nursing, how large the shortfall is, current staff turnover and how many places are actually available to study in the UK. Edited by Mapletree (20 Dec 2018 11.11am) Funny how people don't come to the UK to be police officers which requires less training than being a nurse

It would be helpful if employers offered the support. In Germany there are very well regarded qualifications earned on the job, we are rubbish at that. But be careful which Degrees you write off. I was at a lecture where an IBM recruiter said their favoured Degrees were Classical Studies, Philosophy and Theology. We have to remember that Education is not Training. The well-educated tend to take to training far better because they have learned different ways of thinking. Those are very broad subjects as well as established parts of the University offering (well the former would be if it included that most esoteric of disciplines: Greek prose), and were't the sort of thing I was meaning. I was more thinking that a first degree in say call centre operation or sports journalism would be of little value because the base of learning underpinning the specialism was too narrow. They would make sense as one-year masters' or diploma courses on top of a relevant batchelor's degree and used to be offered as such.

Even a lot of people struggling can make cut backs on non essential purchases and those who really are in need I feel for because others are allowed to play and milk the system. I suppose the eventual outcome will be survival of the healthiest/physically able if this is left to carry on.

What I want to know regarding losing freedom of movement is who's going to wash my f@cking car?

My wife is a staff nurse and she says that she spends half of her time nursing and the other half filling in copious amounts of paperwork in order to reduce the likelihood of litigation

The BBC interviewed a woman last week who claimed to have three jobs yet still needed to visit foodbanks as she couldn't make ends meet. She was being interviewed walking along the pavement holding a lighted cigarette

None of that nonsense when Hattie Jacques was Matron. I thought at one time the government was going to introduce a no fault compensation scheme. It takes years to settle these cases and the only people who get rich are the lawyers on both sides. It would be better to just agree someone has lost a leg or brain damage and compensate for their loss based on a formula. I think that's how the criminal compensation scheme works my mate got 18k when he was run over and broke his leg.
