"Labour MP Kate Osamor has been suspended by her party after saying Gaza should be remembered as genocide in a post about Holocaust Memorial Day.

She wrote: "Tomorrow is Holocaust Memorial Day, an international day to remember the six million Jews murdered during the Holocaust, the millions of other people murdered under Nazi persecution of other groups and more recent genocides in Cambodia, Rwanda, Bosnia and now Gaza."

She later tweeted an apology "for any offence caused by my reference to the ongoing humanitarian disaster in Gaza as part of that period of remembrance". (BBC website)

I have no idea why I have to be concerned about whether Iran or Israel like each other. I care about as much as whether India or pakistan like each other. Sure, I'm there in terms of humanitarian aspects but I have to ask why I'm taking sides between countries that don't like Europeans much.

Regardless, thanks to a cold war with Russia anything Iran want or require is there......It was one of the stupid consequences of going down this road.

It's not about stopping these countries acquiring nuclear weapons...even if that were possible it's too late for that. It's about defence systems against them and not being in cold war with them.

Nukes will be technology that's world wide, the idea that we can stop that without having nuclear war itself is unlikely.

It was always about staying out of these conflicts until technology exists to counter it. Long term counter tech is the only way a country like Israel survives anyway....especially if they are going to push all the Arabs out and be Israelis from the river to the sea...all in one place.

Israel going at it with Iran would surley become all of our problems.
Iran will only develop nukes if they have an anti Western government in place who wants it. America has previous for destroying Middle Eastern governments who piss them off one way or another.
I have suspected that America had Iran in its sight ever since the hostage debacle of '79.

This is very poor from Labour, the ICJ judgement is that there is a plausible case for genocide so why can't she add an event we see for ourselves on our screens every day.

Well we disagree and in fact I regard the suggestion that our people are encouraged towards this behaviour...especially the young as unhealthy. Germany has gone down this route and I regard the costs to Europe as significant.

This occurrence never happened in Britain, however it's as if we are connected to it.

The second world war was not fought for anything related to this. There was some knowledge it was happening during the war but not the scale. Both advancing troops allied from the west and east uncovered the camps so we gradually understood it then. It was utterly condemned it as should any attempt at genocide be.

However, until the seventies mentions of the holocaust outside of the Jewish community was at what I'd regard as normal levels. That can be proven by looking at how often the word was mentioned in media.

Indeed, this is a relatively modern cultural practice to incorporate it further than that. The generation who fought the Nazis didn't have this level of connection to it.

For example many times more Russians were killed by the Germans. Why aren't they given a proportionally higher level of victimhood. Hitler intended to do much the same to them and did on a larger scale. I could say why I think that doesn't happen but most people know when they think about it.

Personally I regard this as just another part of social liberalism (which post war generations did not do) that modern day conservatism has embraced to its detriment.
