We went thorough SARS in Hong Kong. Now we have second wave / surge of Covid which is basically exclusively caused by returnees, the vast majority students from the UK . Some were flying knowing they were sick because no checks on exit from UK airports. Everyone here wears a mask and whatever the science on effectiveness they have a positive effect on stopping spread, particularly now Covid 19 is clearly transmissible though the air. We look in sorrow at UL News and see virtually no masks being worn other than by medical staff. When they are available please wear then particularly if you are travelling on public transport. Hong Kong now has introduced compulsory social distancing rules in bars and restaurants rather than order them closed, but, in reality the economy in Hong Kong is shot after the riots and this virus will have a massive impact on hospitality and tourism sector which is a major employer. We literally have people with tape measures checking if tables are 1.5M apart. Anyway, bit rambling. Hope the HOL family take care and stay well Big huge mistake to wonder around other people without masks and eye protection and that's just for wondering around without using our hands ..use them and that's another completely different ball game, this is no simple contagion.

We might see consumer boycotts of China’s products, but people being able to afford to, especially now, is another matter. Government boycotts may backfire with pharmaceuticals in China. I don’t buy a lot of junk so I might be able to do it easier. Some producers might move tooling out of China if a boycotting trend develops. Inflation an obvious consequence but less pollution and more western economy employment potentially. China must know what their food markets are, do and can result in. They’re an intelligent country but choose to let certain things carry on. Just highlights what a s***ty world we live in.

You can see just how much China has penetrated and influenced the world organizations by escaping direct criticism and it's even got the WHO obsessing over the virus name. Its government is truly awful and we need to stop buying Chinese.....and feck Huawei being in our phone infrastructure. Edited by Stirlingsays (29 Mar 2020 9.02pm)

Do you remember those capitalists who said that opening up to China was a good thing? Engagement brings change and all that. Lying and/or deluded Twaats.

Usually I’d just take this in my stride but current circumstances make that difficult. There is temporary distraction with outdoor exercise. Only temporary.
