Wife beating may be socially acceptable in Sheffield, but it is a different matter in Cheltenham

I don't know. Why don't you find out after you've watched Corbyn's speech. Be great to have your feedback on what he said.

Again, accountability is apparently about the personality and not what our public servants are offering to us.

If punk ever happened I'd be preaching the law, instead of listenin to Lydon lecture BBC4

I don't think you watched it.

Look it up. Unless you already know the answer. In which case, spill the beans.

It's not difficult ffs.

What does it matter what Corbyn says? He should lead CND not Labour.

I do like some of Labour's policies, ideas like the investment bank are good ones. But what's the point? This is the time of Brexit and Labour are officially pushing the childlike idea that if we just play nice they will also play nice.

They are literally self harming with this supplicant positioning....But I understand why they are doing it as they are in damage limitation mode wanting to keep as many remainers with them as possible.

They know that to win they have to get the vote of leavers as well and as a good number of their activists prefer to call them racists the leadership know their brand is toxic both ways.

May's 'bloody difficult women' was exactly the right tone to shore up her base and gain Ukip voters.

Labour's position just comes across as pulling Britain down, fear mongering and positioning us as weak. Sure I know some of them believe it but it's terrible politics.

Labour are buggered and it's entirely the fault of their membership. I hope they enjoy their years in the wilderness talking shop and pointing fingers.

I googled him.

His doctorate is in Irish republican feminism, and he works in library services at Queens Belfast. He did his doctoral thesis at the same school: it is not normally a good sign when they don't hire their own student as faculty.

I note the university does not use his title for his job.

If you come to a fork in the road, take it.

I just read the speech. Simplistic attack on the rich, "people held back by a system that is rigged for the rich", "the elites who are determined to hijack Brexit" [the funniest and most meaningless line I think], "corporate interest plundering our NHS" [which parts of the NHS had been privatised under May?], "The Conservatives only stand up when taking orders from their billionaire friends who hoard our country's wealth in tax havens.", "giving big business and the richest in society tax giveaways worth tens of billions of pounds".

His solution to what he sees as the great evil of people being rich is to take the money from them and give it to people who are not rich. Somehow this is supposed to make the economy 'fairer' and magically generate loads more wealth that we can spend on various state run whelk stalls. I suppose the newly enriched poorer people would be better off for five minutes, until the country reverts to some sort of Cuban/Venezuelan shambles. Then of course they will be far poorer than they are under the wicked capitalists and their Tory lap dogs

We have now sunk to a depth at which the restatement of the obvious is the first duty of intelligent men. [Orwell]
