My take... Wilf and managers have publicly come out and stated he doesn't get any protection. The stats are all for us to see that he is one of the top two players to be fouled. It's no secret, there is not much more left to say. However, to some, wilf has an attitude problem, he 'failed' at utd, didn't try 'hard' at cardiff and back in his comfort zone at palace where he is the highest earner, back with his pals and in flash cars. His England stint was a mixed bag and he either gave up and went to IC or he was ignored, so went IC. So already, there are some opinions of him - rightly or wrong. So when teams want to get three points off us, to either win a league, stay in a league, they know this is a good tactic 'wind up wilf, disrupt him'. If he cannot see this, if he cannot bite his lip on 120k, if he cannot just let his football do the talking and realise it's all part of the opposition trying to 'beat' him/us then he will never make it in the big teams. I appreciate it's hard, but we all face demons, obstacles and challenge and we are told to persevere - he needs to look at Beckham post 98, he was hated by everyone... the press loved to hate him... he turned it around, can wilf? I say no and i say cash in on him whilst we can, it's almost on the verge of being a distraction - get 50 mil, spend that on two new attacking midfielders - think of how much AT cost us... get two more of him in our team... job done. Well said!! It’s time to cash in on Wilf if he does this much more then his value with drop massively let him go in summer bring in a few players beef the squad up.

Then after that why has no one just cleaned Ward-Prowse out? Our team is soft. Can you imagine Jedinak letting Southampton get away with the amount of fouls on Wilf?

The difference in attitude doesn't reflect that. Wilf is not a kid any more. Needs to wise up fast.

The way he was treated last night by a number of Southampton players was absolutely outrageous and Marriner's failure to protect him must about to gross negligence.

The rights and wrongs and whether its understandable are neither here nor there because 'Do a Southampton on him' will be the future opposition dressing-room team-talk

This post has been merged from a topic called 'The Wilfried Zaha Thread' by Midlands Eagle This post has been merged from a topic called 'Wilf Ban' by Midlands Eagle I'm utterly disgusted with the standard of that referee who was given the job of officiating the Southampton V Palace game, I thought referees were in the game to make sure the players on and off the field of play, to play to the football Associations rules of the game. But that bias ref towards saints, did nothing but let Southampton players get away with such blatant dirty challenges, most of the saints players tackles didn't get the ball, but were intent in taking the Palace players out. The saints player that made a break leg tackle on Townsend should have had a red card shown to him, it may have been Stephens. All through the game Palace players were fouled by those cheating, dirty, saints players. Zaha's frustration must be at boiling point, poor man. That ref was terrible, everyone watching could see that same player barge Zaha off the field of play, and yet the ref did nothing but show Wilf his two coloured cards, that ref had it in for Zaha its plain to see, Zaha was taken down in the box and yet again nothing given, I can understand Zaha's anger at these dirty f-----s getting away with these cheating an dirty tactics. So FA, get rid of that idiot of a ref, the game can do without such a bias official.

The general feeling seems to be that Saints were lucky to come away with the point, Zaha was indeed fouled by Ward-P but shouldn't have thrown his toys out of the pram and Mariner is a c***

They made Huddersfield look like a ballet troupe.

This post has been merged from a topic called 'The Wilfried Zaha Thread' by Midlands Eagle This post has been merged from a topic called 'Wilf Ban' by Midlands Eagle As a whole I don't get involved with debating referees as I think it's pointless, and also I generally trust they act with the best intentions in a difficult job. However I was really frustrated watching that game. Watching the red card in isolation, Wilf looks like a f***ing idiot, and in many ways he was. But how did the former Chelsea guy (whose name I've forgotten) not get a card for the constant fouls across the previous 20 minutes alone? I don't even blame him for doing it, if it's a tactic that works why would he stop it? Time and again tactical fouls and excess robustness were tolerated without punishment. The non-existent 'obstruction' of Alex McCarthy, whose physical presence was pittiful, was deemed a foul, yet fouls of greater significance elsewhere were shrugged off. I was worried Wilf had a straight red brewing from the manner with which he reacted to Ward-Prowse. I'm also pissed off that when it was clear his head had gone, no-one bar Ayew stepped in. We all know what he's like, and we know he needs protecting from himself. Why did no-one approach him, even after the red, when now we have to wait and see if there's extra punishment. As for Ward-Prowse.... what a scrawny lazy little c***. A smug knowing smile confirmed his satisfaction that his antagonistic behaviour reaped the reward he'd hoped for. How Wilf's never had I red card I don't know, he's used to the excessive fouls, but now the whole league knows that to push him over the edge all you have to do is feign throwing a ball in his face. Incoherent rant over - I'm off for fresh air
