I'd like to think so... sadly a majority of MP's (on all sides) seem to be brown nosing yes men. If a 'NHS Privatisation Bill' or whatever came up later this year, with a Tory majority of 70 or 80, do you really think 70 or 80 of 400 Tory MP's would defy a 3 line whip? It wouldn't happen That will never happen but I would not be unnerved by Labour and SNP nonsense about power grabs and dictatorships.

Funny how so many of these 'progressives' live in safe Tory seats....Nice places mostly.

Compare that to the Lib Dems who want to remain, the Tories, who everyday are further alienating the 27 EU delegates who they need to find agreement with to put Brecit in place. The idea of May convincing them after the past week or so? I mean come on, she's so weak it's embarrassing. But Labour's problem is, that they are the main opposition but have been regularly declared unelectable by the British media. If you have the main opposition constantly degraded as unelectable, and unable to get their message out, you are well on your way to authoritarianism. The deal with the EU is going to be a political, not a legal, settlement. Hence all of the game should being played by Tusk and Juncker. Asking for ridiculous amounts of money the scale of which is not owed by Britain, trying to interfere with the process of the GE, name calling of Theresa May. This shows us that the EU is rattled. Remember that the EU is one giant horse trade. Always has been. Because it is a union of so many countries and cultures, politics is ingrained in its DNA. Kier Starmer may well have a stella legal mind, he is a very capable and intelligent barrister, by playing the political minerield that is Brussels? I don't think he is capable of doing that because his brain is focused on legalese rather than dirty politics.

Is that first paragraph a comedy post? Good second paragraph but come on....Getting involved in politics without gaining power is little more than talking for the fun of it. I know the 'progressive left' are divorced from reality...and I really don't mind that...but when they take over the main opposition it's a real problem for working class people in the country. The hard left just end up making life worse for the poorest....still they aren't the types to take the responsibility and instead just finger point instead of address the real deficiencies. You need to think aboutpolitics in a different way mate. Think about local action groups. I help out in one of the many soup kitchens across the country, giving out food to those who often go hungry or eat crap. No elections are needed for this. Politics is not exclusively about power, its about participating, actively looking out for your fellow man, and not just trying to gain superiority over others. Who does more good politically, soup kitchens or blairites? We aren't divorced from reality, we are trying to actively help thepoor while most just read the news and do nothing. Rant over.

You call charity politics? Yeah, your charity is so much more important than 'insert person here' person's charity. Because you think it is. I do most certainly think 'progressives' are divorced from reality. They have done more damage to the poor than anyone by making the main opposition unelectable......They did it when taking over Labour in the seventies and early eighties and they are doing it again. The outcomes for the poor and working classes will be the same regardless. Still, as long as you think you are being 'political'.

To my mind politics is mainly about helping and standing up for the most vulnerable. That can be done through voting, but it can also be done on an individual basis and a collective one. Putting all your faith in westminster to look after the poor will lead to inevitable disappointment. Anyway ill focus on the palace now. Eagles!

There is little mention of Brexit by Labour since the election was called whilst that is all we hear from the tories, and it's working. Labour are afraid of mentioning it and Starmer's stance on it was so shaky not enough are really sure of it.

Sounds ridiculous but to win an election Labour have to get the votes. There are 48% of the people who voted remain and had Labour represented these people they would not be leaving Europe and have a good chance of an election win. I like JC and his policies but its fundamental for Labour to oppose the government and they have not done this over Europe. Only thing I do think is that the election is far too long so there is some scope if they come good over Europe. An election win for Mrs May will not make any difference IMO it is a UK election and does not affect the EU. It is a re-run of brexit and little to do with the countries' real problems. Still that's what politicians want to hide all the problems behind a brexit cover.
