In this election the people did get what they wanted most, they got the tories out. It is an unfair system but don't forget there was a referendum and the vote went to FPP. Another referendum would be a good idea as people have moved on from that view imo. A huge majority for Labour, should get two terms. We will see if Starmer has the skill to keep us out of conflicts that Harold Wilson did, quite shortly. That's really the only blot on the horizon, at the moment.

Labour's majorities are too thin for this change to be idealogical. They would have to improve the country in several metrics to win another term and frankly I don't see it.....they are going to amnesty immigration and increase crime by releasing more criminals. Economically they are just as screwed as the Tories were.....They are going to hit the boomers with tax rises and be about as popular as muck. The only way Labour can win another term is if Reform are still splitting the Tory vote.....they will try to cheat of course by lowering the voting age but in all seriousness the younger generation are becoming much more conservative than previous ones. I wouldn't be surprised if the left in the Labour party start their own Reform version for the same reasons that Reform started.....that Labour aren't really a left wing party. Edited by Stirlingsays (07 Jul 2024 12.44pm) If Starmer lowers the voting age he will be proved to be a hypocrite. He is on record as stating that when he was young he called for the abolition of the Monarchy, what he now describes as youthful indiscretions. He'd be an idiot not to learn from his own mistakes.
hats off to palace, they were always gonna be louder, and hate to say it but they were impressive ALL bouncing and singing. |

In my experience careerists never care about any of that. They only care about the end result, people with principles rarely get to lead parties. When you do get them it always galvanizes a party....but mostly it's careerists who will do and say whatever they think is necessary.

He might think twice when he sees how many young men now support Reform.

The most interesting thing will be the battle for the direction of the Conservative party. The post mortem will be long and much is going to be said. The way I see it is that the 'broad church' element of the party will end. It will either remain centralist or it will become Conservative. Whichever fraction wins the party will see defections....the centralists will either move to Labour or the lib dems and Reform disappears or the Conservatives will move to Reform. The calculation seems quite simple to me....staying centralist means staying out of power. Farage is just too popular a politician to be kept out of the tent and for them to beat Labour in an election. However, careerists are ego heavy and the Cameron/Sunak fraction won't go quietly. Yep, the coming battle will provide an enjoyable distraction from the assured decline of Starmer's administration. Edited by Stirlingsays (07 Jul 2024 1.36pm)
