Just pointing out he is doing a good job and well loved here and is also doing a job similar to what Cooper is doing at Swansea, someone many people are in favour of us getting. Agreed, just because someone can do that sort of job in the EFL does not necessarily mean they can repeat it in the Prem.

What if the new manager doesnt want him and wants to bring in his own striker. Its all Smoke And Mirrors . Well the board are pretty controlling when it comes to transfers so I wouldn't be surprised if the new manager is only allocated funds for one striker, making it necessary to retain the current ones.

There seems to be a lot of talk about the money and whilst I have no reason to doubt it’s true, does anyone actually have any idea where it’s coming from?

If there is any money I'd guess it comes from what we will save not paying several large salaries once Sakho et al move on, but also from us not having any more chunks of previous transfer fees to pay off. I believe we were paying for Sakho, Benteke and others in instalments over the course of their contracts with us. In addition, I think the FFP regs do allow a certain amount of debt spread over a period of time (though they are not written so as to be a simple sum, more a matter of making a business case in favour of the debt). It might be that Palace will be able to justify £60m of spending now on building the core that will see us through for the next three or four years, and that subsequent windows will be very low spending in comparison (this is certainly what we did before). It's a kind of frontloading. Or of course, it's all bollocks and we're as skint as ever.

But that’s why we have to ensure the prospective manager is not just a glamour appointment but coming in as part of a project. It really is no good bringing a Nuno in & throwing a load of money at it, only for Mendes and himself to down tools on the eve of future transfer windows. I know I’m in a minority when it comes to this but on the basis of what we’re supposedly setting out to do this summer, my 2 preferred candidates are absolutely the Championship managers. Preferably Ismaël for a number of reasons including how early Cooper is in his career. But I still think that despite the vitriol, Cooper could be a very good appointment for the club in our project to progress the club. He’s a highly rated young British manager who has an excellent record with youth and has done a very good job at his current employer.
