I’m well aware of the Spanish Flu, however this was 100 years ago and things were of course very different then - medicine, technology, NHS service, hygiene etc. We far more advanced to deal with this today. Those numbers are stark indeed, however my point was more about the attitude and approach. I agree, today the same disease would certainly have less numbers. Originally posted by Goal Machine
Humans are intelligent and adaptable and technology is excellent. Moat office jobs can be done from home, restaurants and small businesses will suffer short term but new inventive business ventures will crop up. Once this is over, there will be will still be a gap in the market for these businesses to return. It will be a short blip in the economy. I can only say I hope you are right, but I fear you won't be. The margin of reduced economic activity for world recession will have a threshold. I think we need to come out of this pronto as much as we can. Originally posted by Goal Machine
If we can keep below 30,000 deaths in the UK that’s a good result. In my opinion, the government have handled it well so far, but can see it becoming an issue if the lockdown continues for too long. Let's hope you're correct.

I am in total agreement. Apropos 'Lockdown', parts of China have lifted restrictions and a lady penned that it was really lovely seeing families meeting up again, visiting restaurants together and walking alongside the river. I suspect when restrictions are lifted in this country they will be on a phased basis so life will not return to Pre-Lockdown all at once.I trust the Government has an exit strategy.

My first paragraph, in the post you replied to, kind of address what you say here. My points have related to what we should have done....As to what we should do from this position. Yes, I'd be putting the fit and healthy back to work before they lose their jobs permanently...if they haven't already. My previous comments on health requirements would have to be implemented. Essentially environments would be run as in Japan. But your wish or proposal will still more than likely overrun the NHS, for however long. Your goal is probably the right one, but very premature.

When we get similar coverage in Italy then some more people will see and agree the need for this. Some of the conservative MP’s in the countryside who see probably nobody for miles during all this aren’t for turning.

If this were a modern version of the black death this would all make sense.

That kind of hasn't happened in Japan though...but I do somewhat accept that my approach isn't perfect....I don't think that exists as an option. They have organised hundreds of thousands of idealogs to help the NHS in a matter of days. We are correctly building provision in. What we think won't matter...I guess we will watch it all unfold. The whole response thing is a fudge, driven largely by economics with a blend of science. In all events, the outcome will likely be a best scenario, unless you happen to die. Or, unless you are a politician suffering 'mild' symptoms and hiding in your basement for the next month. I can diagnose you immediately as a C-unit. You need to see a gynecologist.
I disengage, I turn the page. |

I'll give it a go...in time limited blasts, whilst practicing social distancing.

Why do i have a feeling the government is going to use the corona virus to implement new taxes under the guise of national emergency. Bigger Property taxes, bigger death taxes and so on.this will be stomached by the public as they will want to get back to normal. Those taxes will then be the norm!

At a guess to cover the cost of paying everyone whilst not working. Money has got come come from somewhere!
