But Nick, you are happy for the State to pay the workers of an unprofitable industry like the mining. And you are against individuals from moving away from a town that has no jobs to make a living. It's classic State vs Individualism. You are happy for a large State which controls our lives such as our transport system, our energy etc. Edited by Penge Eagle (18 Apr 2013 11.40pm)
I do think the state should have greater control of services. Look what happened when control of these services was wrested away from the state... high fuel bills charged by a cartel of energy companies that are not even British! Edited by nickgusset (19 Apr 2013 12.08am)

Just noticed this, which articulates her unBritishness quite nicely, I think:
She divided us and, for a while, conquered us. Hopefully, her awful legacies which still exist today -Chavdom , higher rates of homelessness, crime rates and traffic pollution; love of money at the expense of many, big business having too much influence on Government policy, dumbing down, unemployment and desolation - will be radically reversed. Won't be any time soon though.

Can you extend the border south to the Humber, then I can move back home to Durham and be independent, too? Edited by Pinky (21 Apr 2013 10.22am)

Every office I've worked in has been full of people from outside London. That's what people do to get good jobs and they love it in the capital. In an ideal world it shouldn't be the case but we don't live in a perfect world, you have to adapt! But Lefties don't want individuals to make their own decisions but instead want the State to organise their lives (job, house) for them. Let's become the Soviet Union. Edited by Penge Eagle (18 Apr 2013 10.59pm) So arguably people who cannot afford to live in the area they work? How good a job is that, one which can only employ people who need to travel an hour or so a day each way, so that's around 9.5 hours a day minimum.

Supported Palace for over 69 years since the age of 7 and have seen all the ups and downs and will probably see many more ups and downs before I go up to the big football club in the sky. |

But the worst types of patriots are the people who voluntarily cross an ocean and go to an entirely different continent yet still profess how proud they are to be English when they are nothing of the sort and don't want to come back , don't you think?

Nail on head. Been thinking the same thing for decades. She was no patriot. She admired the individual dog eat dog way and not the then British sense of community and fair play. She didn't really get us. A few million Brits put her on a pedestal which is simply baffling if you take the unions and Falklands out of the equation and unmask her as she really was. An iniquitous marketeer and a malignant vandal. In that case how can you talk about how much of a patriot Thatcher was when you're not even a unionist. Thatcher was very patriotic and it's pure nonsense to mention otherwise. Indeed those who claim otherwise aren't in my view patriotic at all......Most of them I view very suspicously in that regard. She didn't leave England and pay taxes elsewhere like Blair and some others, despite being wanted in America. She stayed where her heart was. I hasten to add that's it's valid to work overseas for all sorts of reasons... but for those that decide to stay there and don't intend to come back to settle....Well....I don't like the cake and eat it stuff....If you really love a country you stick with it....As my old Irish mate use to say, plastic paddys are two a dozen. I travelled 1000 miles to find a better job and, 18 years later, I dont regret it!
