These worst case scenarios are just that - when the impact is modeled there'll be loads of scenarios with varying degrees of likelihood. And the assumptions in worst cases are normally quite extreme, that's their purpose, they'll be other scenarios with less extreme assumptions, and others that will predict a positive outcome.

If I give you facts, for example that farming supports will be cut by 75% from April if we leave without a deal, you treat me like some kind of religious nutter. A fact is a fact. And it's damned irritating to keep getting hit by fake news in response. Give me back a fact, not some drivel about 'it'll all be OK in the end'. I am not trying to give you a prognosis for the whole future post Brexit, merely pointing out a hard Brexit will make a rapid and radical difference to meat farming. Tell me, in factual terms, how I got that wrong and why the industry body doesn't understand its world. Remember that rather strangely this is an industry where predominantly people voted for Brexit. Don't witter on with the continual bombardment of 'it's project fear', like that means anything.

I give you Jean-Claude Juncker, the President of the European Commission. It's nothing really....just Juncker being his probably drunk self but can you imagine the press if Trump had done that.....but practical silence from the MSM. Edited by Stirlingsays (17 Dec 2018 12.37am)

It was reported on the radio this morning and yes Brexit maybe a factor but its not the main one by any stretch. Apparently 90% of JLR sales are diesel far more than most other car manufacturers. They have been slow to replace these with more eco friendly engines so this is bad management. Their biggest markets are China and the USA and the consumers there are turning away from their cars. We are going to see a lot more of these stories with Brexit being blamed and yes in some cases that maybe true. However we are seeing a big downsize in the high street sector which has nothing to do with Brexit. In the next few years many jobs are going to be lost due to increasing automation. In short its going to be difficult to identify if these massive changes are unrelated to Brexit, somewhat or not at all. Even if we do not Brexit I predict massive job losses in the near term. The real question is how quickly can we react to these changes and identify new job opportunities to replace them.

True enough Car manufacturing is not an industry I would wish to be in at the moment. But let's face it, Brexit isn't helping now is it? As the inevitable shake-outs happen it would be good not to have our indigenous industries already suffering stress.
