Anyway I'll shut up rowing with Stevie boy on the Brexit thread....because it's all rather self indulgent.

Well you're the one advocating a return of some kind to the past. Can't you choose? 1980 perhaps?

Is that your take on the likely endgame? I'm not so sure. Isn't the government obliged to give Parliament a vote on the deal at some point? And if it gets voted down then Grieve's amendment gives Parliament to ability to determine what happens next. Parliament could withdraw Article 50 if they consider us unprepared for no deal. Not gonna happen before March 30 And any deal will never get through because we'll always be in a worse position. We're never going to get a better deal than the one we already have

And you're also right I think that Parliament won't vote through a deal that delivers lower economic benefits than full membership. Basically anything can happen. Like for example the tory party splits after the meaningful vote on March 30th. At that point a no confidence vote is passed. An election is called. Some kind of weird b******ised SNP / Labour coalition gets a small working majority and we apply to withdraw article 50 after we've technically left. Strange concept but one that the EU might consider once there's a Government in Westminster that they can actually strike an agreement with. At the moment they're not willing to negotiate until there's a Government with the power needed to ratify what's been agreed. Can't say I blame them, they've already wasted enough time on this nonsense.

At some unspecified time in it's recent past England was good as it was. Are you saying then that we should try and recreate that period of time?

This is all about minorities throwing their proverbial weight around and this will only get much worse as numbers grow. Surely once they've had enough babies they will no longer be a minority and conversely they will argue about you throwing your "minority" weight around? Like for example the situation in Northern Island, where Britain artificially created a majority which is becoming a minority because the number of Republicans is growing? Or Israel where the growth in the number of Arab Israelis is outstripping Jewish Israelis who will themselves become a minority in due course.
