Good post. Agree on Southgate but I've also equally pondered who the replacement will/could be?

I think it's the first time ever, whilst I do not wish for it whatsoever, I'd suggest the current Palace Manager for the role!

I have a theory that Eddie Howe is very good at rallying teams early on and taking them on a joyride but fading after that. He might therefore be useful for an Int'l tournament? Not sure what substance, if any, is in that? He can't be long at N'castle either

Be very surprised if we approach a German or he (or she) accepts.
Howe is standing out a mile.
Wonder if he would become as nervous (developing a twitch) and unsure of himself as Gareth. Managing a country is an unenviable task. Patriotism is becoming far less of a driver in most multi cultural countries like England. Therefore you are managing a bunch of exhausted players who are simply playing more and more games.
The problem with international management is the lack of time spent with players. Nagelsman is a rare find for Germany and in my opinion why they will shape up to dominate the world stage while he is there. On first game showings they are streets ahead.
England is like watching paint dry, we are both boring and frustrating to watch. Im not that fussed if I miss our next games. Compared to the emerging Glasner Palace who are miles ahead in entertainment value.

Turkey showed England how we should play, good luck to them.

I think one of the things that Southgate needs to start thinking about is who is going to play at left back against Dembele if the seeding works out. Shaw will not be match fit and Trippier is not quick enough. Saka could play left wing back in a back 5 and this could allow Palmer to play.

Agreed, doubt Gareth has given that any thought as he hasn't tried out any other LB's.

He'll also have a problem in CM, as by then he would have played Trend AM in 4 relatively straightforward games.

Which English LB's has he not tried that you think he should have?

From memory, he's looked at Mitchell, Gomez, Konsa, Chillwell, Shaw & Trippier over the last 24m or so - I'm not really sure who else he could feasibly pick? Alfie Doughty?

As much as it is much more exciting to watch, it's just impossible to play that openly and beat the top sides.

They were a goal-line clearance away from drawing with a poor Georgia side, and only won because of two absolute screamers which they're not going to pull out every game.

Great to watch but will never win anyone a tournament.

In both recent friendlies he played Trippier. He was poor in both of those, poor in the first group game, and if I was to hazzard a guess he'll be poor in every other game he played.

I suspect its my Palace bias talking, but given his upturn in form I would have wanted to have a look at Mitchell in one of those warm up games.

Would have also given Doughty 45 mins to see if he could hack it.

Fair enough - I think you can make a case for Mitchell, but I'm not fully convinced he's an international standard player - he certainly didn't look it when he was given a chance for England.

Doughty shouldn't be anywhere near an England squad - appreciate the temptation to try something different but I think he's way off the required quality.

I'd prefer Gomez to Trippier FWIW, but Tripper has been very reliable in big games for England.

Daisy Duke couldn't do mutch worse than Trippier. I'd certainly watch her though!

As has been ably demonstrated in this thread and in the football records, we don't beat the top sides anyway. So why not 'give it a go' and at least give the fans something to be excited about as we (if you are right) fail yet again, rather than failing with the usual turgidity?

I think fans finding getting to finals and semi-finals exciting.

That's fine, then, if they are happy with failure. One final, by the way. Singular.
