We’ve just hired what is looking like one of the most exciting managers in the PL. We signed two great players in January. What more do you think we could do to show our intentions?? Keep our best players.

I noticed something buried away in an article today that claimed Glasner was going to take over from Cooper at Forest but it fell through as OG wanted a say on transfers. Now, if this is true, that must surely mean he made the same demands of Palace. Given his apparent attention to detail that seems like no bad thing to me, but does it impact Dougie and his team? Is that why there have been links between him and United and Newcastle? In recent years it has looked like the club has been moving towards a strategy of long-term investments in recruitment, but managers tend to want players who provide instant returns as they know they might not be around to see those investments bear fruit. It could be an interesting tug-of-war over who we sign this summer. Hopefully, everyone is singing from the same hymn sheet.

I think DF is a good judge of a player but it didn't appear that he was in harmony with Roy. And when you know the manager is only on a 12 month contract, buying for the ' now ' becomes an issue. Looking back to January, I'm fairly sure that Munoz was a Glasner signing. If not specifically that player then certainly that role because Roy was not playing the same formation that Glasner employs.

Hopefully its more a case of Glasner being consulted and throwing names into the hat, but ultimately DF and SP sanctioning moves.

I would welcome Glasner's involvement in transfers, with no malice intended toward others, even if that means DF was to seek employment elsewhere. The last few games have hopefully been a glimpse into what he wants do in his capacity. I can't recall ever being so enthusiastic about the club or our style of play, the closest I've come there is when Wilf/Yala were at their scintillating best. If Glasner is going to effectively implement his brand on the club, and is a stickler for detail, allowing him to bring in players to best suit his system/plan seems logical for me. If that also means a condition of his coming here was money to spend, all the better. The only problem I can see with that is it might be off the back of selling some assets but again, I'd be less concerned if Glasner was lining up his own replacements and had the money to do so. A very optimistic stance but not completely deluded I hope.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

I don't think Glasner would welcome Dougie's departure. In praising the squad's performance since his arrival, he's said its quality was a factor in determining him to come to Palace, specifically alluding to intelligece, attitude and temperament which are qualities Dougie has always said he lays stress on. If you look at how much Forest spent and how, you could understand recruitment being a much gretaer concern for a potentially incoming manager there. Having said that, cover for the wing backs, so crucial to his style of play, has to be top of our shopping list and I see we have maded enquiries about Kostic who has played successfully for Glasner before. Our interest in central defenders who've played under him before has also been reported. For that role, I doubt there's be discord if we secured Johnson if he's very helpfully on a free. As ever clickbait links us disquietingly with players in positions where we don't have vacancies. We have three excellent central midfielders and one who needs the right company but can shine when he's got it; so why Gallagher (or Mendy)? Why would we spend over our usual budget on Nketiah who's no better than the strikers we have neither of whom cost half what the Arse want. We need a wing back each side of the pitch and to backfill whoever leaves, although Franca was meant, I thought, to anticipate Olise's departure and Rak Sakyi has seemed at least as good an option to me. I think squad space for additional wing backs will be created by moving Riedwald on - he really should have ambitions to play more and superannuating oneof Ward or Clyne (unless we could find a taker for Holding? (please)).

According to the BBC Sports App just now they are saying that Will Hughes has (seemingly, by virtue of the number of appearances) triggered a 12 month contract extension - Originally posted by doombear
Now that we are (virtually) assured of PL football next season, I have been giving some thought to the Summer and the squad for the coming season. Here are some thoughts starting with the injuries issue: 1. The extent of injuries has been a common thread for PL teams this season. We rank 3rd in the list of days lost to injuries (1496 days) behind Newcastle (1658 days) and Brentford (1512 days). Even Luton down in 10th place have lost 1160 days to injuries so far this season. 2. The injuries problems seem to be an increasing issue for clubs. It would seem prudent to have as big a squad as we can afford next season. 3. The maximum squad size permitted by the PL is 25 excluding those players who are U21 at the start of the January in which the new season starts (so Jan 2024 for next season). 4. I believe our current squad size is 24. 6. How many of those who are classed as U21 are of 1st team or bench quality and by “bench quality” I mean capable of being brought on and doing a job? In my view there are only: 7. Therefore, how many of the 8 out-of-contract players should we offer new contracts to? 8. I suspect many fans will accept an extension for Hughes and possibly Clyne given how he is responding to Glasner. The others due to leave are: Ferguson, Matthews, Riedewald, Schlupp, Tomkins and Ward. So fellow posters – any thoughts?

Possibly doesn't start when everyone is fit but he has the personality to manage that and always gives his all on the pitch.

For sure, there are going to be plenty of scenarios in the upcoming season where we will be glad that we have him available to call on. Originally posted by taylors lovechild

Last year we could have sold Olise and replaced him with Palmer for about the same money.
