I certainly came away thinking "Wharton is the real deal" reminded me of a young Ben Watson only better - Originally posted by Ginger Pubic Wig
Wharton is amazing. We have a right back at last. França needed that experience and hopefully learns what he needs to achieve as an athlete. He was absolutely shot after that run in the first half. Richards good. Roy must bite the bullet and play Johnstone. But I guess that's £20m wasted if he doesn't stick with Henderson. Roy tried to be positive with his subs. Turned out he should have been true to type.

Henderson is a decent keeper but Sam is far better. I'd say Henderson is just below the Guaita level but I can see an argument that they are on par. Henderson is an excellent No2. for us.

Not sure why anyone thinks Henderson was at fault tonight? I would like most prefer Johnstone being our No 1, but whoever was in goal tonight wouldn’t have changed the result? We played without our four best players against a multi million pound team who had a bench full of players of a quality far exceeding our bench. I thought we gave it a good go tonight, so unlike the last few matches no complaints from me towards Hodgson. If anything, we lost because our substitutes just weren’t good enough. The players that went off and some that stayed on were knackered. Chelsea could make substitutions and still have a strong side. Sadly we couldn’t and that was why we lost. Thought our new players played well and once settled in will enhance us greatly. And even more so will make our bench stronger with a better quality of player to bring on once Olise, Eze, Geuhi and Dacoure are available. Let’s hope the first 3 are back before it’s too late to keep us up? I agree with all of this. The players really bust a gut last night and it was one of those games where the subs really gave the advantage to the billionaires club. I also thought the ref issues and the delayed kick off caused our players to lose focus at the start of the second half. It was the same for both teams so you can't complain, but that was my take. Taking this game in isolation I feel much better about things as the players showed they have the heart for the battle. Lerma looked like he shed a tear when he scored. The Everton game is all about the result though. After the previous two seasons it would be great to beat them at their place. Maybe the away fans could invade the pitch! Unbelievable, 48th minute, 91st minute, 94th minute. We lose control of games at vital times. Henderson is absolutely garbage, we’ve been mugged off with him for a big fee. How come we keep playing Henderson when England's number 3 is sitting on the bench. Johnston is a country mile better than Henderson yet we keep playing him and he is bloody useless.

Good to read positive comments about the game at last. A different and enterprising lineup and the new boys looked were a revelation. Munoz and Wharton excellent. Franca, for a 19 yr old got stuck in although he gave the ball away a few time and tired towards the end. Lerma's goal was a delight. From my seat in front of the TV it certainly looked like the whole team really made a huge effort. Hope Roy goes with the same lineup next week, but swaps Johnstone for Henderson.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

At last we played some of our young talent. They gave us hope fight and something to be proud of. OK not the final polished article but alt least we had hope.

Pretty upset after last night by the result not the manner. I think the lads did okay and Roy picked the team I would have chosen. On another forum someone wrote Chelsea will win this game with their bench and I think they were right. We just ran out of quality. JPM was superb for about 60 minutes defending from the front but once he ran out of steam life was a lot easier for Chelsea. The same with a number of our other players. Chin up lads this was no disgrace.

Let's start from the fact that despite the 23% of possesion(during which in the fist half we didn't give them any chance to shoot)the overall performance was much better than the Brighton and the Arsenal one. If you allow Gallagher to shoot then you are in trouble. The third goal was an unfortunate Munoz sliding. Roy's changes could have come a bit earlier and IMO at the moment it took place, Ozoh would have been a better choice than Ahamada. The facts are that you concede two goals in injury time(again). As for the Henderson haters, his record is fourteen goals in the last four premier leauge games. Personally my wish is for the best of the team's interests(i.e.results) and I believe that with Sam in goal we are in a better position to achieve it.

To an extent I felt that the game changed when Hughes tired and eventually needed to be substituted.

A lousy result but we fought and bar a couple of individual errors when we ball watched as opposed to marking Gallagher, we looked better than we have for a while.

Oh - and I totally agree - Johnstone is way better than Henderson - he must have crapped in the Managers car not to be first choice.
