Franca is right where he needs to be at the moment. He needs games. He was the only player to get me on the edge of my seat all night.

I thought the lad did pretty well for his first start. He won the ball a few times m, passed simply most of the time but also showed the ability to play a quality ball to Mateta. He’s naive defensively and prone to errors but this was documented before he arrived and is part of being young. To be honest he was no worse than Olise was defensively when he arrived and he has improved with game time and coaching. He did run out of steam but then can’t be match fit given he’s spent the season on the treatment table or bench. He deserves a run in the team at this stage. Let’s face it there’s no one currently available who deserves that place in the team ahead of him.

He improved as he went along. Given a few more starts I am sure he will accustom himself to the pace of PL.

He was prepared to take people on, not always successfully, which is more than many others who want to get rid of the ball as quick as possible.

Given his youth and inexperience I think he'll turn out to be a good buy.

Despite his obvious pace and direct approach, I thought Franca looked naive at this level.

Perhaps all those Roy haters who complained about him being held back will now understand the reasoning.
He needs to play to get better, but we need to stay up first and foremost. That is a balancing act for Hodgson.

Who would you play? Our dynamic non scoring midfielder in Schlupp, or our somewhat rather lazy Edouard. Neither offer a great deal on the left side. I think I prefer to give Franca a go.

At the very least whilst Eze and Olise are out, he starts.
Once one of them come back, arguably we don't need to play him as well. Until then there's no real viable alternative.

Hopefully in the time it takes Eze/Olise to come back he's found his feet and he's earned his place to start alongside them.

I agree with this.

I also thinking the other day about if he played with Olise and Eze in the team and how much more time and space he would get while the other two attract so much attention from the opposition.

I thought he did ok, nothing more.

He showed glimpses of why there's been the clamour for him to start games and he also showed glimpses of why he hasn't previously.

At the moment I see few options but to give him a run in the team and get some on the job learning.

I've said it before, if he had come out of the Academy I would say that he's got potential, and carefully managed could have a future.

But he cost what to Palace is a small fortune. The club need him to succeed, it can't just be an aspiration.

I agree, He looked good a couple of times going forward. That little run in the first half where he nearly got a shot away could have been amazing. He put a couple of intelligent passes through too. Equally he tried more than once to carry the ball up field and lost it to Gusto. He also lost Gusto (who he should have been watching) when Chelsea scored so I'd say its 50/50. I definitely see he has potential but right now thats all it is and he has a mistake in him for sure.
Having said that, while I trust the coaching staff to know more about it than me and respect their decision, I would personally like to see him start against Everton

He didn't improve as he went along. He was still making positional and defensive errors right up to the end. Equally he still did a few good things going forward right up to the end.

i dont think left side midfield is his position, more of an eze type just wandering around in the centre, do think he should have been replaced by schlupp to give mitchell some cover at the end...

He played well and was a really good outlet down the left. Sam Johnson might well have found him earlier if he had been playing so he would have had more opportunities against Chelsea’s right back.

In fact all 4 of the new outfield players did well, things will start to gell with more game time….

Right now, we don't have many options.
Schlupp is losing whatever he had and Franca has much needed pace.

I'd start him all the time Olise is injured but only through lack of choice.

He is new to football and life in this country. Also, there is the language issue. Hopefully, he will overcome these setbacks and get adjusted when he starting to know more people whether from his own country or local here.
