With Sam’s injury record It’s not surprising we are again having to turn to Dean. Over his career he has done very well under most circumstances. I’m expecting his nervousness and general poor play of earlier this season to be replaced by a more commanding figure. If we see the same then I’m sure OG will ask the board for another keeper or Owen Goodman or Joe Whitworth might get bench time next season. Big opportunity for Henderson and ironically against Nottingham Forest!

Would be ironic if Henderson plays the rest of the season, and plays his way into the Euro squad

Henderson had a shaky start but to be fair our defence had surprisingly become a bit of a shambles under Roy and on set-pieces he was under a lot of pressure. Glasner made an almost immediate impact in improving our defending of set-pieces so hopefully that will help Dean. Taking questions over the fee and his wages out of the equation he is still a top class keeper, I just think he needs a couple of big performances to boost his confidence. He also has a bigger kick on him than SJ, which in our new more direct approach could be an asset.

I feel as though my perception of Henderson was already hindered by the transfer fee and lack of spending elsewhere. Therefore all I needed further was a few bad performances from him, albeit with a defence that was crumbling under Roy, and they were the fatal blows. If it is to be him for the remainder I suppose blind optimism is a better alternative to blinkered pessimism. You never know. I don't think I'd ever have described him as a 'top class keeper' but at the very least he may be better, much better than the view I currently hold of him.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

We were fortunate to have the underrated Guiata for a number of seasons - a very consistent performer who was rarely injured and rarely cost us goals. I don't believe this chopping and changing between Hendeeon and Johnstone as each keeper is injured in turn is sustainable in the long term.

It is easy to forget he isn't actually that experienced with his season with Sheffield Utd the only on where he completed more than 20 games. That season he looked like a star and many were suggesting he could push de Gea at United when he returned. Maybe I am being optimistic, but I wouldn't say it's blind optimism as he has proved himself in the past. By the way, I would still pick SJ ahead of him, I just think some of the criticism being thrown his way is unfair.

I really don't recall much of him at Sheffield United but I do remember the commentary around him at the time. The 'blind optimism' was a phrase I was using for myself as a polar opposite alternative to holding a fixed, negative view just FYI. I wasn't employing it to describe anybody else just in case that is how it's interpreted.

It's too late, before seeing your reply I had already removed you from my birthday party invites, eaten your slice of cake and contacted my therapist.
