Another dire instalment of Royball. No intent and again the attack had all the penetration of a rubber drill.
Pleased to see Franca given the chance to start but why maroon him out on the touchline and why not try swapping him with Eze and play him for a while, nearer the middle ?
Naturally, he was one of the tired and samey substitutions by numbers again
Nothing changes though to be fair Roy was a little animated tonight and less like someone waiting for a bus. He will be delighted with the clean sheet and another point.
Oh hang on.....

How does the club have the nerve to expect us to sit through more months of that absolute s***? What have we done to deserve this?

If you go back to the in game comments most of us thought it was a joke red card

For me it’s a potential read without malice. There was no bad intention from Calvert lewin just unfortunate timing, it happens. Look at our pen against city and Liverpool pen against us, both accident but still fouls

It’s like watching a movie 10 times and wondering how it’s going to end. All very boring, we know we have a great chance to stay up but sadly it will be painfully boring under Roy. I am looking forward to next season now and sleep my way through this one

My thoughts:

It's certainly not the first time against a Dyche side we are frustrated. That's what he does.

I thought Franca was exciting. Every time he had the ball in space I was standing up. The team didn't use him in the first 30, it takes time for players to look for him. After that he was e citing. He will be a player.

I'm frustrated to say I'm beginning to like Mateta. He is beginning to be a great hold up player. I just wish he looked faster on TV.

Everton should have won. Better shots. Henderson saved us.

In my opinion, exactly as you described and a definite red although others disagree. I think Clyne was fortunate it caught the side of his shin rather than full on but he still hobbled off. No malice intended by Calvert Lewin but every player knows you can’t tackle like that.

Studs up = red card

Cheers for sharing your insights.

I've just seen the incident in a video on Twitter and honestly think a red card was the right decision. I don't suppose it was malicious at all, but unfortunately for the EFC player I don't think that's any defence. If it had gone unpunished I would've wondered what the VAR was looking at, and if it had been a Palace player I don't think I'd have felt any differently.

The disappointing thing though was that, whether he should've gone or not, we failed to take advantage of having the extra man. I feel like the chance for winning the tie has now gone and don't really fancy our chances in the replay.

On the plus side, it sounded like Richards had an excellent game and Ahamada was involved quite a bit when he came on as well. I'd be happy to see Ahamada be given more game time.

After 15 minutes I felt I might fall asleep.

So I went to the fridge and downed 330ml of Red Bull.

Then I fell asleep.

I woke up 5 minutes from time and I can confirm that the inside of my eyelids were far more entertaining.

That was about as bad a game as it gets from two Premier League teams.

Everton had the better of what few opportunities there were, but as they have done all season, missed from situations they should have scored from.

As for Palace, this was an unwelcome return to a few weeks back. We only have to have one or two players missing as in Ayew and Olise, and we look dysfunctional.

Midfield looks all over the place. Lerma has energy and no lack of effort, but he’s not working effectively without Doucoure. I don’t like to criticise a player that’s playing out of position, but for all his interceptions and aerial ability, Richards slows any momentum because he’s not comfortable in possession and only capable of easy, short range passes. As for Ebs, he looks lost at times. Still capable of good moments but not himself.

Franca I thought did ok, but if we hadn’t paid a big fee for him or he’d come up from the Academy I suspect we would be thinking that he shows promise but is still a work in progress and no more than that.

I’m glad we have a couple of weeks break now. The players look like they need it for sure.

Eze is frustratingly inconsistent isn't he? It's unlikely he'll turn out Ballon D'Or nominee anytime soon.
I suspect the cycle of injury / recovery / full fitness / injury etc etc has disrupted his performance levels.
I strongly doubt he's worth the £80m figure some have mentioned.
