I was annoyed at Roy’s return but for apparentl different reasons to most. He must’ve wanted to come (can make his own decisions) but you could foresee the lack of spending and struggle therefore I thought it was unfair on him especially after all he’s done for us.

That said, we’ve shipped 5 in the last two games against sides in the relegation zone who’ve a singular method of playing football as a result of it being the only option available to them.

Screaming ‘Roy Out’ completely misses the point, or a lot of it, as to why things are sh!t but is not a sentiment without any substance whatsoever - he’s the head coach. Things such as missed chances, injuries, mix-ups etc are something managers have to deal with. We’ve looked tactically bereft, without identity, low on morale and therefore lacking in intensity, effort and purpose the last two games against poor opposition, leading to two very disappointing and worrying losses.

The manager does not get a free pass unless we assume all footballing matters are determined completely separately to them. Part of the job is to remove, reduce or mitigate for such things.

I agree with what you say, but I also don't understand when players are not performing Roy does nothing to change it. He hasn't even tried to see if Chris Richards might be the answer at right-back (he has the height and more pace than Ward and is a better passer). He hasn't given Ahamada more time when he clearly has more energy and speed than Hughes who again was at fault for not stopping one of the goals. He hasn't given Franca more than a cameo even when like today we needed some magic. He just throws JPM on around the 75 minute mark and starts launching balls at him. There's no seemingly no ideas or experimentation. It's boring, it's not working and I'm fed up. The hope seems to be hang in there and hope Eze or Olise do something.

Well, well, well, if those injuries are as bad as they seemed we will be missing Eze and Doucoure for quite a while.

No surprise we lost after that, our squad depth is poor and especially awful in offensive areas.

Once again it comes back to some exceptionally ridiculous transfer business in the summer, and massive amount of money wasted.

Franca is a luxury we simply cannot afford. 2 tied up in a player who is not ready for the PL and may not even make the grade on PL. Alright for the big clubs to take gamble but not is.

Freedman and Parish must have been gambling on getting no injuries.

I think we are going to have to sell Guehi in January, generate some funds and increase the quality of the squad. Trouble is after the summer would the fans trust the club not waste the money again ?

Not looking forward to the Christmas run in that's for sure.

I don’t know how you can be sure Franca isn’t ready for the PL when he can’t get on the pitch. Clearly Roy doesn’t think he’s good enough but let’s be honest he’s not renowned for giving new signings a chance. If we keep losing and the manager changes nothing he has to be part of the problem.

It seems I was watching a different game. I thought we were unlucky. We lost 2 key players at almost the same time, yet still maintained our ascendancy. We had a good goal ruled out for an unlucky handball, scored a wonderful equaliser but made a defensive error to concede again.

The pressure at the end so nearly yielded results. The only reason it didn’t was luck.

Luton didn’t beat us. They are a poor side. Luck beat us. Play that another 10 times and we would win most of them.

That’s football.

Olise was outstanding.

What game were you watching - we were awful..!!

Same old Roy playing his favourites not giving youth a chance..!!

If anyone says Ward is worthy of his place ahead of Richards I will do my cannister - bloke can't run and can't pass and is still playing week in week out and Captain - its getting beyond a joke..!!

We had some injuries - but Roy brings on Hughes - we already know he ain't prem standard - why not give Ozoh a go - but not even deemed worthy a place on the bench..!!

Whenever is Roy ever going to give Franca a go - no sticks with Schlupp - I'm still not sure what he is but whatever he is he definitely ain't left sided attacking player..!!

I backed Roy to stay for another season after the backend of last season - but I'm seriously beginning to doubt that now think he is just reverting to Roy of old and our performances are reflecting it..!!

Today was just woefully poor and anyone who says otherwise are just kidding themselves..!!

Today was embarrassingly poor..!!

Agree with all of this!

Well, aside from a debate over the merits of Ayew and Clyne, this ought to be thereabout the strongest XI we can muster this side of the window. So if this ain't good enough, it may be a long hard winter!

No extra comment needed from me.

Yep, completely agree TL.

We can’t of spent all that money on Franca (and nobody else) because he’s incapable of playing in the first team, Ahamada at least looks to have some energy, I quite like him, and when fit Richards is a very good player.

Roy’s rigidity is what provokes the questions, at least when it is not working. On another thread I stressed over the possibility that this game would be tight when potentially it didn’t have to be. Roy’s tactic of keeping things tight and hoping we nick a goal may seem effective against the top teams but against teams we’re clearly superior to in quality it leaves the door open for these type of results.

If you can’t come up with a different tactic for Luton than you do for Man City, you’re just as likely to lose as we did today as beat city like we have before. Stressful and baffling.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

So it's Roy's fault that we lost that, is it ???
Blame him for their keeper's saves from our players?
Blame him for the mix-up between two international players for their winner?
Blame him for injuries?
Blame him for J-PM being unable to do anything football?
To be polite, I'll just say that I disagree strongly.

I managed to watch most of the game on an illicit stream that kept breaking up and I agree with you. Roy has had his day and we need to find a new, young head coach, but the players must take responsibility for such a poor performance. I have stood by Ward in the past, but he was outplayed today.

Losing Eze and Doucoure through injury had a huge impact and I thought Luton were treacherous and played some reckless football.

Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled.

He hardly made any big headlines when playing in the cup competition with the u21s. For 20m he should be the absolute standout player in those games and having a massive influence on them. We lost both games he played in I think. That certainly tells me he isn't ready for the PL.

Just to add, on the back of another poor performance, I'm now convinced that PV wasn't the problem despite making a few errors of his own.
Roy has the same side, minus Zaha, who was going through the motions at the end anyway, and has the team playing worse than PV ever did against the type of opposition we have recently faced.
Basically the new manager bounce of last season against teams below us is just a fading memory, right now we are treated to vintage Hodgson from his 14th placed finishes from his first stint. Alas I don't envisage it getting any better, rather, I wouldn't be too surprised if we are down to 16th come January. If that is the case, Parish's reaction should be worth noting.

That was pretty bad.

Yes, Lerma was just outside my thoughts, but have to say 7
