Roy should have swapped Ayew to the left within 10 mins. Failed to react to the facts - Lerma left Mitchell isolated. So the players really had a bad game but some of them were only just returning from injury and it showed. Roy felt he had to rush them back, I guess...I'd have preferred JRS on from the start as JPM is better as an impact substitution.

And much as I like him, Hughes isn't a replacement for Eze.

I said the same about swapping Ayew to the left further up this thread. It was a no brainer. I also said Lerma and Doucoure weren’t ready and that could be seen. I also don’t think Hughes works well with both of them playing. In truth most of our 11 were poor yesterday and Newcastle were on top form. I expect our starting 11 before injuries a few weeks back would have given them a much harder contest? It also didn’t help the fluke first goal and the less said about Edouard and Matteta the better :-(

On one level this answers head on why players need longer to return from injury. Hopefully the positive is this game hastened their recovery to full match fit.

On another we had more shots than them. 17 with 3 on target. Finishing clearly a serious issue.

The stats are flattering - Lot of long range stuff and headers under pressure that were nowhere near

That is correct we have scored just seven goals with a conversion rate of shots to goals of circa 6%!

Has anybody said he is?

Can’t blame Roy for yesterday.
Our players were of a far inferior quality. With the team we were able to play we wouldn’t have beaten them if we played the game 10 times.
What does Parish expect?

Yes you can in part.

If you believe this inferior to be true why bother to turn up for over 50% of games you are saying we have no chance (Again another stupid comment)

Parish is happy to just stay in the league.

It was the incorrect setup from the start.

We see this often with Roy if he can't play all his favorite 11.

Ayew was on the right to offer protection for Ward who we have seen this season is a liability.

A lot of the issues is having players out of position.

I would have gone for a 3 CB system and only 1 up top.

Mateta is like an Irish Wolfhound. Must have small lungs as he has no stamina at all. Poor guy looked f**ked after 20 minutes.
If we could only find a half decent fast striker we would really be buzzing.
That German lad at Stuttgart is meant to be good. Guirassy. Got a bit of pace on him too.

It's ironic that Palace Ladies are the top scorers in the WC by a mile but we are the worst in the PL.

Can't we have Annabel Blanchard to replace that non-scoring and so-called 'striker' J.P.Mateta ?

Anyone. Really anyone else who plays up front in any league. The worst part about our decent forwards being out is Mateta has to play. B awful yesterday.

This wouldn't have had any affect on the result - we would have still lost. The team was plainly inferior to Newcastle and the players who were available didn't perform. Simple as that. We move on. Chances are we will lose against Spurs. Its realism. However in a couple of weeks we go into 3, possibly 4 games that we can all win.

Considering we have scored just the one goal in the last four games, including 0-0 results at home against Forest and Fulham, possibly is the operative word, as no games are certainties.
