We have, supposedly, a solid central defence but still conceded
from a free kick and a cross from the right.
This needs working on.

And God help us if Eze gets injured, we lack a back-up creative midfielder who can provide through balls like Schlupp and Eze did at Plymouth.

Still a win is a win.

I think Edouard looks a better player when Mateta plays.
He gets a bit more space and is not as tightly marked.
The thing is we're unlikely to start with both in case we get overrun in midfield.
I do think it may be worth looking at in games against weaker teams who don't threaten us though.

Edouard replaces Schlupp, leaving Lerma/Decoure to shore it up.CF Mateta.

Eze and Mateta, the new Wright/Bright.

Or even Edouard and Mateta. How often have they been paired up front?

It's hard to tell if Wolves were appalling or we were good at this stage of the season. I'd say the former.
Playing Mateta and Edouard together seemed to work well, but we can't do that every week.

A better defence will not be so generous, but the slick stuff was great to watch. Eze is sublime and Mateta's back assist was lovely.

The Mitchell cross was beautiful.

We need to defend crosses into the box better in the air - but we were decent up front. Two conceded is a little worrying as Wolves really didn't seem that threatening. Three scored is great and, frankly, not expected. Edouard getting the poaching, true centre forward goals now and Mateta looking like a target man. Eze the danger man, as expected. Ayew needs a goal but otherwise decent. Schlupp not at the races currently.

Very glad we are creating goals now with understanding (MAteta back heel was awesome) however, still seems a glaring problem to defend set pieces and their second goal was basically like a set piece because everyone standing around like statues waiting for the whistle. Takes the shine off a lot of creative attacking.

I know, but the teams at the bottom of the table are really weak.

Next 3 league games are against Villa, Fulham and Man U.

Let’s see how we are at the end of September.

Weird game. First half was right back to some of our performances in Roy's first spell. Second half started the same but from about 65 minutes we were very good.

Very encouraging that Edouard got two goals, if he can turn this into a sustained run rather than an outlier, like his debut, it will change the shape of our season.

I know Wolves were pressing us high but thought we gave the ball away far too often in our own half. Schlupp was a passenger, again. Ayew busy but wasteful with his big chance in the first half and several overhit through balls.

This season will entirely depend on us keeping key players fit as our first XI is a wildly different standard to the reserves.

Anyway, great result to take into the international break ahead of some tricky fixtures.

We were somewhere around Barstow, on the edge of the desert, when the drugs began to take hold...
