I see that Farage is attending the Conservative Party Conference in his GB News presenter capacity and getting cosy with Truss and all the others on the right. This looks pretty clearly to be positioning for the post-election situation, which could go several ways. My preference is the right of the Tories accept there is no place for them in the modern Party and they split and join Reform, with Farage either leading them or being their cheerleader at GB News. However I also see the possibility of Truss standing again for Party leader after a humiliating defeat and the membership, bless them, voting for her with Farage encouraging them. That would, I think, signal the final death knell of the Party as a major player and open the door to PR and coalition government. Inevitably, the pervasive nature of liberal, leftist zealotry in this country is leading to a counter reaction.

The only people who see any “liberal, leftist zealotry” are the same types who have been bleating about it all my life. They have always been with us. They are just noisier these days in places like GB News and this, whereas before they were restricted to little groups in bars or clubs and went largely unnoticed. Politicians are pragmatists. They know nothing can be done unless you are in government and extremes don’t get to form governments.

Edited by Hrolf The Ganger (04 Oct 2023 9.51am) Wokery is just a popular insult of those for whom progressive change is never acceptable. It’s not real. Change should be judged solely on its merits. Some things go too far until common sense restores the balance. Others resolve long standing unfairness. Not all good, but not all bad either. The sooner “woke” disappears the better. As a piece of jargon!

I hate seeing and hearing the word used to describe changes brought about by a tiny minority against the overwhelming views of the majority of ordinary folk.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

A line must be held and it's the story of the right's failure that they never held one.
