A move must be mostly about money, as he is no longer likely to cause much of a stir at any of the better champions league outfits. We all know what he gets with Palace ,highly paid and adored by the fans. I don’t think he needs Roy, as the reason to stay, but I wouldn’t be at all surprised if Roy has Wilf high on his list of reasons to take the job for another year.

Fully agree - here is after a last ditched effort of a bumper pay day Ie 1 year 200k plus per week with a likely passage to Champions league Yet it comes at a cost of him being on the bench mostly as he has changed from run onto the ball & run with the ball whilst moving to - control the ball slow the play then His style has changed due to agility - & the bigger clubs can see this He is in a dilemma , yet his agent will likely think of his own pocket first regardless of the commodity future !

My greatest concern is that Zaha doesn't get any offers from clubs that can win things and then, with a broken heart to go with his increasingly battered body, signs a huge contract with us. I always thought Sakho, Cabeye, PvA, and Benteke suffered from a kind of deflation of the spirit after they signed for us. I'm sure they were all generally professional, but you need more than that. They played like they realised their big-time moment had been and gone. I'd hate for Zaha to go that way. Really good point. Personally, I feel like it already has. I feel like it's been that way for a while. He got his Man Utd move, then failed. So palace has always felt like the plan B for him.

It is also entirely possible that Palace haven't offered Zaha a big wage bump but that his agent thinks it's in the interest of their client if the press say that he has. Personally I worry about us having the best team on the pitch not the club's bank balance, but I do think reports of him being offered 200k per week just sound a bit off, especially on a 4-year deal. Whatever the case, I still think it's unlikely he'll be with us next season. If he really wanted to stay he wouldn't have left it this late to sign a deal, which means if he does it is probably because no big clubs wanted him, which as others have said is probably the worst case scenario.

If he does grasp the nettle and leave his boyhood club, then I hope he goes somewhere we won't see him. There are suggestions that clubs in the middle east and China are interested in him and at least we wouldn't have the ignominy of seeing him playing against us. I also agree that a £200k pw contract would be outrageous in the face of the sums paid to Eze and Olise for instance. He's been wonderful for our club, but his best is well behind him now. Good luck, whatever you do Wilf.
Dad and I watched games standing on the muddy slope of the Holmesdale Road end. He cheered and I rattled. |

Now they have qualified for Europe I could see Newcastle sniffing around Zaha. They have the money for the wages he could want and can offer a European stage for him.

Anyone else seen the Zaha mural that has gone up on corner of park and holmesdale Road?? I was just thinking to myself that would be slightly odd were he to leave end of season? I’m assuming this is past week or so? I can’t recall seeing it but I am the type to walk past 900 times completely oblivious and all over social media.
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Palace are rightly proud of Zaha but I think 200k a week isn't a realistic reflection of where we are. We have areas of the pitch we need to improve and that would put a significant dent within that. When it comes to attacking talent having Zaha for a couple more years would be great but if we can keep the young top talent we have then scoring goals won't be the issue.

I don’t think it is a case of we have to have Wilf, any longer, we are still better with him, but we have proved we can go forward without him if that’s how he sees it.

Can we PLEASE stop all talk of 200k a week. There is NO way any of us or any lazy journo who just plucks a figure out of thin air, can know how much the club is offering. If Wilf goes he should go with our utmost appreciation. If he stays, and I hope he does, then we will have retained a massive player. In no other industry do people discuss how much employees are paid. If the club re-sign him they will do so on a deal they can afford and really it’s none of our business how much that is.
