I really hope they adopt the world cup added on minutes next season. Would cut out all the play acting and time wasting.

This I wholeheartedly endorse.

Something must be done to cut out chronic time-wasting. Players know the fourth official won't add sufficient time.
A 5th official needed with a stop watch, won't happen but can understand fans' frustration.

Those on here who blame the ref. when we lose never appreciate when we are beneficiaries of a ref's incompetence.

What was easily noticeable from my lofty perch and perhaps not picked up by Roy at pitch level were the acres of space through the middle that were available. At one point Doucoure picked up the ball and looked left and right only to see Eze and Olise on one side and Schlupp and Zaha on the other closely marked. He stepped up with the ball but looked like he was getting a nosebleed going that far forward and it came to nothing.

I would like to have seen us have a complete change of tactics second half and maybe could have gone 4-4-2 with Mateta and Zaha up top, and playing more through the middle.

We definitely ran out of ideas trying the same thing time and time again, with our ‘skilful’ players being constantly faced up by two defenders. I hated Spurs approach to the last half hour but under Mason they had come up with a defensive plan that was very effective and given their recent troubles I thought they looked reasonably solid. It definitely looked like a different manager bounce from them defensively.

I’ve always thought that similar to basketball the ref should stop the clock for injuries, subs and any time wasting and rolling around that goes on. The stop and start could be shown on the screens. The game can then finish when the refs watch reaches 90 minutes.

Ok, you're being pedantic. I presume you think think that extra minute means Roy acted quickly! Sorry if I confused you by lumping the Schlupp sub on the end of my sentence.

Seriously though, did you watch the game? It was the sort of performance that had it been under Vieira you would be ripping your shirt off and running through the streets declaring the sky is falling. Personally, like many of Vieira's games against the big teams after Christmas, I thought we passed the ball ok, looked defensively organised, but seemed to lack ideas up top. Hopefully it was a blip and we'll get our bounce back for the final three games.

I thought we deserved a point, it wasn't a great match all-round, it showed some of the things we know, we lack a Vardy style CF someone who plays on the shoulder of the last man, Ayew was missed on the left wing, Zaha is a me,me,me player, we lack height throughout the team , and the bench is awful, you would only want to bring on Richards or Hughes, as Willo said we dont have Kane.

I guess the question is, how would they define time wasting. Like if the ball goes out of play for a throw or a goal kick, and the leading team takes 30 seconds to take it, what happens? If they stopped the clock every time the ball went out of play, the match would probably take closer to 2.5 hours of real time to reach 90 minutes of playing time.

I'm not really sure what the answer is, but yesterday was dire to watch, and not just because we lost.

Another idea, how about if a deliberate foul in the attacking half of the pitch is a red card instead of a yellow? Like the rugby tackle on Wilf, or common cases where a defender deliberately pulls down a player to stop a break, knowing that he'll only get a yellow for it, so it's worth it.

Agree. They do it in rugby too and have done for some time.

Rugby Union, from mics on refs to the stopped watch for when the ball is not in play is surely just an example of common sense and intelligent decision making. Football the opposite of this. Granted it may not happen at lower levels for Rugger however the minnows of Crystal Palace spent £30mil+ on the statuesque Benteke a number of years ago now, the money is there for it.

Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!!

Willo, you had to be there to truly appreciate the poor level of refereeing. Zaha was kicked all afternoon and Spurs got away with it most of the time; yet when he wrestled the ball out of Forster’s hands he got booked while FF who was blatantly time wasting got 3ugger all.

One rule for the big clubs!

Sorry, just have to call you out on this and to avoid the 'Willo thread' suggest no more on the subject.

Willo, you have a proclivity to defend the referee on 100% of all occasions no matter how bad the referee performed or how bad decisions were. I cannot recall one solitary post of the 100s you have posted on the subject where you wrote that the referee was bad or wrong. Therefore, we all know your opinion on this particular topic.

When we do get a poor decision, in our favour, many on here are quick to say so. I think in general other posters on Hol make reasonably fair comments about the officials.

Two words …… Mark Clattenburg (for those of us who are long in the tooth on the Hol!)

I agree but the ref has to recognise the time wasting to act on it

If we were in the position where we needed to preserve our lead or hold out for a point, our supporters would not be averse to any 'Game Management'.
