And forever take the knee.

I don't critiscise them for taking the knee anymore. It's the only time we look organized and in formation!

This tournament is madness at the end of a long season - a pointless excercise.
He doesn't deserve the sack given a recent semi and final but he does need to go after the World Cup.
A great media man and manager of young players but a shockingly inept footballing tactician.
Keep him on as the mouthpiece but give stuff on the pitch to others to deal with.

If he was kneeling down that semi maybe painful

All that we will prove by keeping Southgate on for the World Cup is what we know already. His brand of football will win nothing.

It's a free hit anyway. This World Cup will be a farce.
It is one of the most disgraceful occurrences in my lifetime. A winter World Cup in a non footballing country, which came about via bribery and corruption.

No one should be taking part.

Good call.

Not sure about the 'Talent' we have right now.
Our Striking options are; Kane.
Midfield; Foden is our Stand out playmaking midfielder. followed closely by Bellingham.
Mount is another John Barnes, rarely performing for his country.
Saka's our only wideman
Sterling has never really convinced me, but give him his credit, he Was our Standout performer at the Euros.
Grealish is Great... when coming on at 60 minutes.
then what? Rice(who is improving all the time) and Phillips - who's nowhere near the form that got him in the team.

Central Defence options are soo poor that you have to persist with Walker at RB as 'speedy' cover, rather than play someone like TAA for a bit of attacking threat.
then at right back : Shaw, or a Left back shoehorned in there.

The 'golden generation' was a lot more of a wasted opportunity.
The promise that we showed 4 years ago hasn't materialised.

The Germany game epitomised this for me. we pretty much played the same team as the euros when we won. Germany were rubbish that day.
Last week, the change in them was plain to see, back to their old ways. Fresh faces and improved no end.

This is exactly what I've been saying. The squad of players are vastly overrated.
Southgate switched to 433 against Hungary, went for a more attacking line up (which pundits and fans had been calling for) and we got hammered. Whilst Southgate is no master coach/tactician, he can clearly see we have poor CB options and to ensure we stay in games he has stuck to a 352, 343 formation to protect them.

Our CMs work hard, get about the pitch but they once again lack the technical ability to keep ball and control games, something that has been Englands downfall for as long as I can remember.

If I were Southgate, I would ignore the media/fans, stick to his guns and play defensive, looking to hit on the counter and nick a goal. It's tournament football, playing pretty football isn't necessary.

100% bang on. Maybe 200%.

I have now sufficient funds to last me the rest of my life. Provided I don't buy anything.

What are realistic expectations for the World Cup? I always expect 5 or 6 countries to be better than England and there's usually a wild card team who come through so quarter finals for me and anything else is a bonus.
My bugbear with the England set up is that players are still often picked because of the clubs they play for - Tom Cleverley of Man United got 13 caps. Tom Cleverley of Watford wouldn't be on many people's lists. John Stones of Brentford?

Gareth is an intelligent man that looks the part and says all the right things. From an FA perspective.

Based upon his achievements as a manager in club football, he should be nowhere near the England job.

If we are going to stick with the Gareth ' type ', then Graham Potter is the heir apparent in my opinion.

The difference being that I think Potter has better tactical nous than Southgate. Whether he could handle the egos of the players would be a question mark but I can see this happening after the World Cup

I suspect that Newcastle wouldn't be totally adverse to that.

They can afford the top players but I think they need a top manager to attract them. And I don't think that's Eddie Howe.

But Based on his acheivements as a manager in Club football, he got the U21s job, then succeeded in that, then was promoted to the seniors. that's a fair enough job progression.

We need something to change. England have been unable to move forward with any kind of identity since '96.

Yes if he gets them through to Feb, they have bought a few more players, are better placed in the league & are ready for their next level of progression it could certainly be considered a win win for both parties.
