For me it was strange subs again by PV, Eze was easily the best player on the pitch, but in my opinion Sclupp, Hughes and Mateta also had good games, to take all three off for players who are not even going to be at the club next season was mystifying. Hughes was not only on a Yellow with the distinct potential of getting a Red, he was also suffering with a headache. Mateta did ok but sometimes you need to change things to give the opposition a different problem to solve. Benteke at least won a few balls in the air, Mateta gets the timing of his jump wrong most of the time. I would have left JS on however.

Well that was a game we should have won. As was expected, Everton started at a frantic pace and their primary tactic was to get the ball into our box as quickly as possible. Once we settled, all the football came from us. My concern at half time was that if we conceded a goal early in the second half, we could come unstuck. And of course we duly did that. Our weaknesses at defending set pieces were exposed again. I couldn't get a clear view of the Ayew incident, but if Anthony Taylor felt he may have made a mistake in only showing a yellow card, he more than made up for it with his pro home decision making for the rest of the game. For all the fuss about the Deli Ali substitution, Everton's chief threat were the long balls from Pickford. And given that he was allowed to take any set pieces from where he chose, Everton took full advantage. Their tactics reminded me of Wimbledon in the Crazy Game era.

Is it just me who thinks that there's something really fishy about this result? To be two up at half time after completely dominating and then effectively disappearing and shipping three in the second half is inexplicable. With so much at stake for Everton and them magically delivering what's required in such circumstances seems more than a little suspicious. Without doubt the worst result under Vieira's management.

Hmmm, i remember another game at Goodson park in 1994 that finished 3-2

My problem is the 3 that came on JS should have stayed on, they could have switched Ayew to midfield and give Rak-Sakyi a run out, and as for Benteke, the mind boggles

Whatever way you look at it we are roughly in the same position as we were last season points and position wise and no nearer being in the top half of the table as some were suggesting a week or so ago. The reality is that we have had a bang average CP season, albeit that the football has been good to watch (sometimes), however the problems of last season (lack of goals) is still with us and we lack the ability to be able to defend set pieces and crosses in to the box. Sure we have had changes on a massive scale but the squad is still lacking and once CG (our best player this year!) goes back to Chelsea then the team is going to be much weaker unless we can find a suitable replacement, plus a half decent striker and at least two or three others. Next season is going to be much harder as the opposition coaches will be in a much better position to counter PV's set ups for the team as they have had a season to study him and his methods.

Benteke was in the shop window, as was Luka. Shame it was Poundland.

We don't need players like that. None of the top players and indeed better teams are frightened or put off by hostile crowds. How do you know?
