They beat Norwich and Watford and only turned it around at Wolves after Jiminez inexplicably decided to get himself sent off. If they continue to play like headless chickens against Man City they'll get thrashed. Sorry

You can be booked for any foul, that is up to the ref. It is easy to stop rotational fouling, the ref speaks to the captain after, maybe, the second foul and says whoever commit s the next foul on Zaha is booked and so are those thereafter. Yellow cards. Are far to often only applied to certain types of foul, as against persistent fouling. To many refs are allowing persistent fouling to be a genuine tactical weapon, simply by not punishing a second offence with a card, and by doing so allowing the cheating just as much as not booking a diver. It depends on which way you see the game going in future , but a free flowing game would be much better served by stopping persistent fouling , which if blown as a foul stops the game, which of course is it’s tactical use. And only the use of the yellow card is going to effect that end.

Zaha in particular makes a meal of any tackle on him and seems affronted that he has been stopped, so refs tend to give the benefit of any doubt to the defender.

It's a partial contact sport by necessity really, or cannot be avoided. The aim is to get the ball not the player, but sometimes the player will be touched or brought down. In rugby however, it is part of the rules to bring the player down without any intention of getting possession of the ball or removing it from the player. That is truly a full contact sport.

When the ref says it is. The point being if the ref is giving the foul, it’s a foul. And if the only sanction is to stop play and award free kicks , it’s no sanction at all in the full course of any game.

And the effect is that flowing football is negated and potential breakaways almost always frustrated by cynical and clear fouls. Wilf is constantly fouled and because they know they are going to have to do it opposition teams plan their fouling routines to avoid a particular individual doing enough to get punished - just. It is cheating, quite simply and also cheating the fans of a better spectacle. It's just that some people are well trained in how to get away with cheating.

Why aren't better players than Zaha fouled or supposed fouls as you think Zaha is? I genuinely thinks he makes more of any contact than the better players ie Mahrez, St Maximan, Saka, etc. They are more direct, Zaha likes to stop beat a player twice, giving them a chance to stop him.

Is he still going? Thought he retired years ago!
Now Zaha's got a bit of green grass ahead of him here... and finds Ambrose... not a bad effort!!!! |

Saka. Just for the sake of everyone’s mental well-being: Twas a joke Painter! You wouldn’t need it of course but I nonetheless grant you free rein to comment on any of the plethora of grammatical mistakes I make going forward, should you desire! I have often pondered whether the occasional comment I make of this sort is to show off my highly amusing wit, or to distract myself from the fact I have nothing constructive or insightful to offer I remain strongly suspicious it’s the latter!
