I honestly don't think you have been following what's happening. Russia's economy, like the west's is suffering, however it's being re-routed. They are already making deals around the world, with India for example, for their resources....Also, their importance in farming resources are significant. I'm hoping that there are easy ways around that. I think your view that green energy is going to take up the slack is about as realistic as Johnson's. The scale of what you are talking about is enormous. A cold war is a disaster both militarily and economically. The living standards of everyone...but especially the poor and vulnerable are those who suffer over bad long term decisions. I follow what is happening very closely indeed. Just because I didn't mention something does not mean I don't know about it. It was a post not a thesis! I didn't say green energy would take up the slack. I said other countries. Saudi has already said they are increasing output. The US has released oil reserves. Probably after saudi said they would up output to replenish them. Don't get me wrong I don't like SA's attitude either. Countries that align themselves with russia could be making a rod for their own backs. The west could easily pull the plug on them as well. Look at china, russia's so called 'best friend' Remarkably silent. Why? Because they know that they do 2% of their business with russia and most of the rest with the west. That's a big risk putting all your eggs in that one basket. And india and the like would never take up as much oil and gas as the west do. Plus they will almost certainly have to sell it cheaper than the market price or why would india buy it! Europe takes 75% of russia's gas exports!!!! Or did.

Wouldn't bullying countries to our will be modern imperialism? Anyway Groover, I have to admit looking at the economic options for the west and Russia/China is just all a bit depressing. What I'd rather know is what has happened over at Comrades?

Not really anti west but massively pro russia to the point where main stream news was not watched but pro russian news was. That's why I left. I couldn't square posting there and putting my name on the list for having a Ukrainian family stay with us. I've meet him a few times and had a beer. He is a lovely bloke and I would happily do so again. Just would have to agree to not discuss the war. Unless I had any of the Ukrainians with me of course! I left the BBS as well because its full of cry babies and people whose debate method is to call people racists/fascists etc. There is also a clique that pick on posters until they leave. They must be running out of targets by now! You could type a 200 word post and some b*llend would just reply Racist!

What I'd rather know is what has happened over at Comrades? Its not bullying or modern imperialism. Its the difference between right and wrong. putin is a loon and has to be reigned in. I have no issue with russia or its people. Just as we are now best of friends with Germany. There are so many issues in the world right now and turning a blind eye is just not working. Maybe this will be the catalyst for some good to come out of it.

I quite liked the site but I did get the impression that they wanted the more conservative voices off of there and what happened with you kind of confirmed that. I noticed it's back but moving the Politics link right down the list really miffed me off. Still, Comrades has/had good posters on it....Chris was excellent (is he still on there?) and I kind of got on with most. I think my attitude towards the Russia/Ukrainian war is closest to Hungray's Orban....I seem to be where Orban is on a lot of politics. I'm not pro Russian, anyone who has read my posts over the years knows that I'm pro English/British/pan European. Mostly I'm pro getting out of this war with the least death and the least damage to the west....and I'm not interested in hurting anyone. It's like a game of chess and my study of the board is that we have the black pieces and the position isn't as good as some think. But unlike chess where one side wins or draws here I think everybody loses and it's just about the extent. I guess that explains why I'm so annoyed about us being in that position in the first place but we move on. Edited by Stirlingsays (02 Apr 2022 11.20pm)

I only ever had the odd nose around there, but I can't really say that I'm all that in favour of sites being attacked and closing their doors because of the owners opinion on an issue.. And if BBS is 'more appalling' should that close its doors too? Realistically we should be defending them to the hilt, regardless of their owners views or site moderation style. Where that doesn't happen it hardly puts HOL in a great position.

Oh...Comrades has been shut down. Hacking the site is just wrong....I do have sympathy for that regardless of what anyone thinks of anyone's views or positions. If you read this elgin, I'm sorry to here about it.

If you read this elgin, I'm sorry to here about it. Yes, i saw Hrolfs comments, visited Comrades and saw that it was gone. Hacking it all because of an opinion doesn't sit well. There are various opinions either way about the war here too, but it can't be right that people behave this way rather than argue against or simply stop visiting the site. Nobody is forced to visit, but to take that option away from others can't be right. Must have taken a good while to get it up and running in the first place so that all goes to waste too. Edited by BlueJay (03 Apr 2022 3.09am) I agree, it's vindictive and it's a shame. Those who are responsible can bask in their pointless victory of shutting down a Palace site which, whether you liked people on it or not, housed Palace fans.
