I love Wardy but he really sttuggles at times. Put a bid in for Forest loanee Spence, he'd be brilliant for us and has pace to burn

Well I thought Zaha had he’s best game in months for us. Hardly saw him moaning tonight. He looked nearly like the Zaha of old to me. As for the team, the problem is that if it wasn’t for Zaha’s worldly goal we wouldn’t have drawn. We could have won after that with the penalty and perhaps we wouldn’t be moaning now? We were too slow in our build up and unlike the first part of the season we aren’t getting numbers in the box. The penalty move and one Schlupp pass back from the goal line was the most dangerous moves. Olise didn’t get past his marker other than cutting in or passing back. Not having a go at him but the team aren’t moving forward enough or being adventurous. It’s just easy to pass it back / sideways rather than going for the throat and getting the ball / players in the box. The substitutes, especially the last two also made us weaker which was a shame. They just fitted in playing the same way without giving us an edge - strange? Top post. I am with you 100%. Edited by The Dolphin (10 Feb 2022 7.07am)

You did notice Wilf slipped as he went to hit the penalty right? Clive Allen called it straight away, he wasn’t trying to be to clever. Apart from that agree with you on his overall performance and your ratings

Unfortunately if you do not take a straight run there is always the possibility of this happening. If I was Wilf I would change his run up.

Pretty sure Wilf will change his run next time around. But good to see him without all his usual tantrums yesterday, think we will experience the "old" Zaha in the coming weeks.

Clyne. Better defender I dont know about that one , PV obviously see Ward as a better option ,but with Clyne on 80k per week he should be playing alot more . I think the time has come to retire both of them in the summer and get some fresh legs in for the right back position .

I have played in wards position and he got caught flat footed very early in the game and for the next 44mins he was on his own with a player who was on fire for 45mins 2nd half he was better , Wilf great goal , good dicipline , but overall they marked him out most of the time only 1 player needed to mark him ,but maybe he will start to show more of the old Wilf. Bottom line when putting pressure on teams be more clinical in around the pen area , lets face it we should have 12 more points than we have

His standing foot clearly slipped as we went to strike the ball. Dodgy pitch rather than dodgy pen in my opinion. Mind you it looked terrible. its the oldest trick in the book. A dodgy pitch for orthodox players, and all your own penalty takers are left-footers.

It’s true about Ward being too slow, but the starting setup was wrong. Ward’s okay when a solid central midfielder is nearby. That’s why I would have preferred to have seen MacArthur, Milovoyevic or Kouyate in the starting lineup. PV goes and chucks in all these attackers. But it leaves us weak at the back. Ward was targeted throughout the match. But a defensive midfielder would have supported him and developed play upfield. PV isn’t so smart strategically imho.

The good to take of all of this: 70% of the ball away from home is quite special Viera knows what the issues are so is well placed to address them Wilf and Viera obviously have a good relationship, maybe he can ring Wilf back out of his shell We've got more strength an depth than I can ever remember (in most departments) so we can start playing players in form vs best team on paper Norwich are on a good run at the moment, they would have been targeting Palace at home as a must win game - and they didn't

We had 72% of the play tonight and I think 7 more strikes at goal than Norwich, we should have put this to bed, but how many time have we said this. I’m like a f***ing stuck record. This might seem controversial, but I want to see Chek play at right back at Brentford, he covered there for West Ham and he can do it for us. Poor Wardy has no positional awareness at all, how many times was he outpaced tonight. Every side we play against know it’s our really weak spot. On the other side, Mitchell had another great game with his timely interceptions. If we can get him more forward he will be a great asset, mind you he did win the pen!! Mitchell had a great game and has Zaha covering him. They both complement each other. However Ward doesn’t get the support from Olise down the right the way Mitchell does on the left with Zaha. Ayew is much better supporting Ward than Olise and I expect he will start against Brentford? Olise makes a better impact coming on as sub as well. Ward had a tough time yesterday but I thought he played well.
