It depended where you lived. In Liverpool it was Keegan.

I think some on HOL are seriously underestimating Hughes. He is a fine player, and alongside Gallagher will very much improve our midfield i.m.h.o.

Jackson.. Wan Bissaka.... Sansom.. Nicholas.. Cannon.. Guehi.... Zaha... Thomas.. Byrne... Holton.. Rogers.. that should do it..

Time will tell but relegation favourites Watford didn’t think he was that good or they would have offered him a decent contract to stay.

Do we know that they didn't? Or is it that at 26 Hughes wants to spend the remainder of his career in the PL if possible earning good money and, like the vast majority of pundits, sees Watford as relegation favourites and Palace as a better longer term PL option?

In any event, he may not be the most exciting transfer prospect, but I see him as strengthening our squad at a reasonable cost and likely to be a regular starter alongside Gallagher and A N Other in midfield, at least until Eze is fit.

Agree completely.

Don't waste your time with jealousy. Sometimes your ahead, sometimes your behind, the race is long. But in the end it's only with yourself!!

Hughes is abit like a younger version of Mcarthur which we need. He is not flashy but does the simple things well and is a consistent performer and team player who will add depth to the squad

Having watched the game against Brentford it's also abundantly clear that Kouyate is and never will be comfortable in possession when receiving the ball from the back. He got caught several times in dangerous positions.

Hughes apparently shifted to a more DM role for Watford last year so I'd certainly feel more comfortable with him in there if we are to continue to adapt our style.

I wouldn't mind also getting in Lewis O'Brien as competition for Macca and Gallagher who'll both require rests through the season due to there non- stop style of player. I admit it's unlikely we'll get both however... but we can dream.

Spot on. Hughes and O’Brien would provide the energy to suit a high press and the bite we’ve been missing. Like you I think both might be beyond us this window.
