Good move for him. It’ll be a case of watching to see if he’s able to fulfil the potential Dougie obviously saw in him through the championship coverage on TV.

We have a long standing interest in Downes so the story may have legs.

BBC reporting it now: [Link] I don't think this means the Doucoure deal is dead rather imo it's more likely the Aribo or O'Brien deals are off.

Skillful player. I'll be pleased if he comes.

Roughly, Doucoure is the Kouyate replacement. Downes is the Gallagher replacement. If Doucoure falls through, we'll be looking for another midfielder to replace Kouyate. Downes doesn't feature in that equation.
Sydenham by birth. Selhurst by the Grace of God. |

Forget Doucore and keep Kouyate. Plenty of funds then for RB and one other and a loan. He may not fit in anyway.

Who else loves the fact that each summer window with Palace there always seems to be a move for a player which comes out of nowhere!? Luckily we never agreed terms with Oumar Niasse from Everton on the deadline day we signed Sakho. If Downes signs hopefully he'll be more in line with Will Hughes than Jordan Mutch.
I ain't got nuthin' funny to say. Sorry. |

What does give me confidence is having had Steve & Dougie working together for as long as they have done we will have paid our dues, made mistakes along the way but learnt from them - if we are going after a player you can be sure that we have had the opportunity to have a good look at them first & due consideration of all the aspects will be applied which as many posters on here will know has not always been the case in previous years - for sure things can go wrong but if you do your homework properly it reduces the risk element.
