I don't know where you got your figures from but my understanding is that those most at risk are the elderly and those with pre-existing medical conditions but that doesn't mean that they were deemed likely to die within the next six months. I assume that fitting most people's description of elderly and having pre-existing medical conditions it is only natural that I have greater concerns than you do especially when my wife is a nurse in a major hospital and therefore more likely to come into contact with viruses than most Imperial College London for the figures. With normal life having a fatality rate of just under 1% as it is! (based on how many people will die each year anyway with all things being equal). I am not seeking to dismiss concerns, and given the environment your wife is working in then I fully understand why you would be wary but this current hysteria makes no sense when actually broken down based on those who has it and what actually happens. My rather sad hobby is writing novels and short stories around a mysterious pandemic wiping out over 99% of the worlds population so I know hysteria when I see it and this Coronovirus ain't the real deal when it comes to anything approaching a genuine concern. It is killing as virusus are meant to, it is mutating into a milder form and will essentially burn itself out as we get into the warmer months. As an exercise in stress testing our pandemic preparations then absolutely invaluable and with a huge learning curve, especially with regards to how the situation has played out in both Italy and Iran because those are the outliers in all of this but in terms of representing a genuine threat to the UK PLC? Nah. Nothing more than our 24/7 news media making the most of an emergent virus.

Coronavirus ... Buy all the liquid soap and hand sanitizer you can get through online delivery and you'll be absolutely fine ... Watch all the tins of soup fly off the shelves next then cancel Christmas 2020 because there won't be enough Chinese made $hit to purchase.

Anyone else getting really f***ing fed up with the relentless media hysteria? I mean, I get that they have to sell newspapers, and there's online ad revenue to be snapped up with all that clickbait, but it's reaching farcical levels now. I think they need to get a bloody grip, and stop scaring people.
