Difficult to argue Parish’s case there. He’s doing what was feared Tony Pulis would do. Some profitable trading is essential for a club of our size in the Prem. He lucked out on AWB. The long term cash in aim is obviously Zaha, helped by Zaha wanting to go. What if he got crocked?

Reading that article is concerning and re-emphasises how the evolving of our team and balancing of accounts is going to be quite painful and last for quite a long time, and then the article shows we’re topping up the bath with even more water with it already soaking the floor in the bathroom.

Not Sorloth maybe, but no problem with what we paid for Tomkins and Kouyate, or how they've played.

That article could have been written by most on here.

I prefer the views from independent journalists without axes to grind

Fair enough but the facts are there with our ageing squad as a result of various things going on a while back and decisions made. There was a time when our first 11 was almost definitely top 8 IMO. It’s caught up with us, however it’s explained, or bashing Parish or cpfc.

I think we are all fully aware of our lack of shrewdness when it comes to buying and selling in the transfer windows. But when you look at the bottom half of the table there is only Southampton that seem to get it right, and that is because they are a feeder club to Liverpool...

Our lack of activity and ability to identify potential makes me very nervous for the coming season. I am sure running a PL club is very complicated but one thing I know we are poor when it comes to transfers incoming players of late. This situation will find us out I am sure of it, just hope I am hopelessly wrong!

To be a feeder club to a big club that’s willing to pay huge fees for its players on a regular basis is because they’re good at the scouting first of all, not because they’re a feeder club and then it becomes possible.

See Dougie comment above... it’s a bit of chicken and egg thing going on with Southampton. Didn’t they take Fonte and Clyne off our hands for a miserly sum?

I'm not denying the facts and I do agree with most of the article.

Maybe our first 11 was top 8 potential, but how often do you get to be able to play your first choices ? The squad is more of a problem because we lack quality in depth. And attracting quality players to compete for a place at our club is where we have difficulty.

There is increased nervousness around this year because we sold AWB and the Zaha situation. And you can include me in that. I don't think Parish anticipated Zaha wanting to go otherwise maybe he would not have sold AWB.

At the moment it's difficult to be positive about the coming season, but that could all change if we manage to onboard a couple of decent players. I'm not holding my breath on that one though.

Looking at the age of our squad and the lack of young transfers (in fact any transfers) we could be in serious trouble in a few years time. Not spending on young players now could mean most of our team will be from our U23's, and they aren't exactly proving themselves after recent performances. Our plan seems very short sighted and as a result it's costing us more money.
